O.k Ali. Thanks for the history lesson. Perhaps I should have said modern day football hooliganism. I remember it well. In the early 60's as a kid, I used to go to all the London grounds to watch Spurs. There was no segregation of supporters, I could wear my scarf, and cheer my team on, and there was never any trouble. Millwall changed all that!!
That poll is odd, and was definitely not conducted in a proper way. Anyone could get their mates to all spam click Manchester United as the most hated. There are also sad people out there who love rigging a poll and changing the results. Also, with this being an internet poll it doesn't reflect the opinion of the masses. For example, I know my uncles and a few older football diehards in my family wouldn't have taken part and their opinions would've differed vastly from some 16 year old kid voting in his room after school. Other, more respected, polls have put the likes of Leeds, Forest and Newcastle in the top 10. I don't particularly care if we are hated, but in other polls of this nature, Arsenal have actually ranked quite favourably, as have Spurs. Here's a link to the Sun (I know that's possibly the worst source ever) about one of the polls from a couple of years back: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...cle1535214.ece Which is a lot more accurate, but a little outdated.
I'm questioning the methods. There's a complete different crowd of people surfing the internet than there is down at the stadiums or in the pubs watching their team play. How can 3 years produce such a radically different result? I think that's a genuine question.
Newcastle fans seem to have gotten more humble in the past couple of seasons, probably as a combination of their relegation and subsequent promotion meaning the fans were galvanised to support their team instead of boast about their alleged greatness. Another thing that pisses people off about MUPLC customers is the way that, whenever they gain a victory or sign a player by using processes that contravene numerous laws of the game, they flood rival fans' message boards to try and shout down the dissent. For example, Old606 was swamped with this kind of crap when they kidnapped Berbatov or in the wake of Nani's basketball demonstration for the best part of a week, and over the summer there were plenty spamming this very forum when someone dared to imp-ly they were trying to crowbar Modric out of our squad and into theirs by utilising Ferguson's numerous friends in low places, i.e. the Murdoch Empire.
The two Gooners who've suddenly sprung up on this thread are the reason why I put Arsenal's fans at the top of my "despise" list (I don't "hate" any one). It's because their arrogance simply will not permit them to see just how much they are truly despised. It's exactly the same with 'Pool's fans.
The polls are a little pointless, as this thread has shown. Different fans of the same club will have a wildly different opinion, so it's down to the luck of the draw, in part.
I've just taken a flash poll from among my immediate family and close friends, and I can reveal exclusively that the following are the top three most despised clubs in the entire world:- 1. Arsenal 2. Liverpool 3. Chelsea So, there you have it. This is up-to-the-minute news.
You're right,, we do you an injustice, and therefore apologies, you have indeed won the Emirates Cup!...oh wait...you even ****ed that one up this year!
Never had a Man U problem but of course the gooners head my league with Leeds (gives away my age) second and apart from them love my football
hatred of a club changes over time and is almost exactly matched with how successful they are - hence Chelsea, Man City and Manu Utd being currently hated, and the likes of Notts Forest and Leeds being hated too (both have won the euro cup). Nobody used to give a damn about City a few years ago, likewise Newcastle, less hated now we have been down in the middle eschalon for a while and no-where near the champions league. Fans hate the success of other clubs, not the clubs themselves
Leeds haven't won the European Cup and I don't think that people really hated Forest, did they? I'd suggest that Leeds' fans probably have more to do with people hating them than any success.
Man $ity is the real-life fantasy football project of its billionaire Arab playboy owner. With fantasy football, one acquires (what one believes to be) all the best players in order to eliminate competition and win everything real easy. People playing fantasy football are not interested in competition, only in the glory of the win. That is the only reason they engage in the fantasy. The Arab playboy has money to do this for real. He could give the money to the poor, or invest in water conservation and save millions around the globe, but instead he chooses to engage in fantasy football, using City as his puppet. I pray to the god of football that we never sell our club to someone who has no conception of the value of money.
Meanwhile, another Arabic bloke who spread the oil money around to neighbouring countries to build their infastructures is currently being (lazily) compared to Hitler and Stalin in the wake of his remarkably questionnable death yesterday...
