Fonseca back in contention now according The Mirror should Nuno get binned.

After having been mugged off at the last minute, why in the **** would he entertain talks with us again?!

Sergio Conceicao also a contender according to the mail.

So far, Conte, Fonseca and Conceicao have been linked as possible replacements today.

Two out of three are Portuguese, @Spurf will be delighted with the options <laugh>

When you see Nuno might get binned, get your hopes up that it'll either be Potter, ten Hag or Conte but then know you'll see "We're delighted to welcome Steve Bruce as our new head coach"...

Despite how he was treated, it’ll be fonseca, IMO.

    and nothing will change.

Fonseca seems like he does have an attacking style and as weird as it may sound, the fact Newcastle have been linked with him with their mega money actually sort of signifies he may be a decent manager for a rebuild and to play with style...

But equally I do know very little of him other than Tifo vids on YouTube and general research so I can't be too certain about him.

I'm at a stage though where it's basically "anyone but Nuno"*.

*not anyone, anyone... but... you know.

For me, it’s another uninspiring appointment, which I don’t think will have any positive effect on the dressing room.
It would have been a risk hiring him a few months ago, but now?! It’s an even worse state of affairs.

Oh it's far from my preference mate but it seems we're likely gonna go cheap again and refuse to offer Potter or ten Hag a blank cheque and with the situation we're in and the poisonous atmosphere around the place, it's hard to see too many wanting in. Fonseca seems like a possible "best of a bad bunch" type.

**** show but then what's new?

Sounds like Nuno’s future wasn’t in doubt prior to the game but the reaction of fans plus the result may have tipped things.

The fact the game before the fans had to tell him to make a sub should’ve been a warning sign.

So out of his depth it’s scary.

I have to agree with Roo on this. The only reason Fonseca idea was tolerated by fans is the fact that we were open to pretty much anyone coming in and getting a full window to work with Paratici in draining the swamp. Levy also managed to buy himself quite a bit of goodwill with the openness of that DNA letter.

Neither of those are factors anymore. Fonseca walks into an unbalanced squad in total disarray after a pretty disappointing window. He may have had zero interest in the likes of Emerson, Gollini or Gil but here they are. He may also have wanted to keep the likes of Lamela for another year (a decision being made to look more dumb with each passing week).

Going back to him after pulling out for tax reasons is surely a step to humiliation beyond even Levy? Surely?

At this stage, it's either Conte now or caretaker until Potter in the summer. I can't see the fans rallying around anything else.

Fonseca comes in and results don't pick up and the scenes of a few years back at west ham will look like a picnic.

The last one actually made me LOL.

"There had been no talk of removing him before last night but the crowd reaction has changed things."

If that's true then there is an appalling lack of understanding and foresight and absolutely no leadership within the club.

That don't really surprise me but them letting us know it for a fact is quite special tbf

Reports in Italy have already said Conte has now rejected us, doesn’t like the squad and Levy won’t give him the backing he’d want.

In terms of a caretaker though I think that’d be pointless. Who’d be caretaker unless we seriously do re-appoint Mason? I wouldn’t wanna put that burden on him, he’s one of ours and wouldn’t deserve the **** he’d have thrown at him if he can’t turn things around. Only other potential option I could even think of would be ‘Arry but I’m almost certain that wouldn’t happen.

It would almost certainly be Mason and Powell, again.
There's be no pressure on him, as there wasn't the first time.
He's not expected to do anything amazing, just bridge a gap.
We chucked him straight in for a cup final. You know we'd do it again.

Chris Hughton's not doing anything, but that would be more risky and divisive, in my opinion.
Harry Redknapp probably wouldn't want it and it would be a risk if he were to do well.

If we appoint Fonseca, he's just the next chump on the list. He won't sort any of the problems at the club and we'll be sacking him within 12 months.

I'm not 100% convinced by that, not because it's somebody from the Daily Wail but because Paratici was clearly getting pissed off on Wednesday night, and it's likely that would have been passed up the ladder

Yeah I think you’re right in that it’d be Mason if we did go down that route. I’d just feel sorry for him, it’s such a poisonous environment at the moment that putting a person who’s well liked by fans in charge that can likely do little to change things just feels like the club throwing him under the bus.

I actually think Harry could be quite good. With Jose’s brutality and Nuno’s dullness, an “arm round the shoulder” type could be just what one or two need. I don’t see that happening of course but just what I’d personally pick if caretaker was the route we were going down.

This 8th choice appointment hasn’t worked. Another announcement of someone like Fonseca is going to go down like a lead balloon. It’s too late, IMO.
This time round, levy has to go all out and get us a conte, potter, ten Haag type with significant money to spend.
It’s glaringly obvious how badly it’s needed. Another mediocre “punt” isn’t going to cut it with the fans or the players.
