Things going well for Scott… “James needs to be fitter. He’s available, but he needs to be fitter. Once he does that then he’ll be back in contention,” Jack Ross on James Scott. Utterly embarrassing and unacceptable. Part of the problem. That's what our season ticket money is going towards. Paying the wage of a professional footballer that can't be professional enough to be fit, so now not available for selection... Send him back to Hull. #GGTTH
I get the feeling he may be struggling mentally. He looked great at first, but then the confidence seemed to drain out of him completely and he's not been the same player since.
Sounding more and more like Cameron Stewart who burst onto the scene looking a world beater, got an injury, then never rediscovered that form.
I can't help but feel like sometimes we don't give players the due attention they need. Kevin Stewart came in from Liverpool highly rated, but was in and out of the team before being released. Cameron Stewart was another talent that wasn't nurtured and now Scott. If we're signing these young lads and saying "you're going to be in the first team" in order to get them to sign, and then breaking that promise, obviously they're not going to be motivated enough. It didn't help that Scott was part of what had to be the most demoralised dressing room for years, but still, I don't think the blame rests entirely on him.
It doesn't say a lot about his attitude being short of fitness, surely that is something down to him and how dedicated he is?
Trouble is, some kids just don't get it. I don't think much of Joey Barton but I do think he has a point here
Sounds like Scott's got a few problems, he's a young lad and probably needs some help. Might need to be away from football to get that.
Yeh but Darnborough and the scouting team do all the due diligence on players. It was a panic signing in a terrible window but you know Ehab is doing the Brentford model so all is fine.
Trouble is, none of us know the facts. But, on the face of it, I find it very hard to have sympathy for him. He was happy enough to take the money from a decent move / opportunity to join us, he was given several opportunities by McCann, (in answer to your post Syd) he's been given the opportunity of a 'fresh start' for a full season back up in Scotland and by the sounds of it is messing it up, and he's been given the opportunity and honour of caps by his country. Opportunities that thousands would give their right arm for (not literally). If his heart isn't in football, then he should be honest, get out and let someone else benefit and save clubs like us wasting our time & money. If he does want a future in football then he should work his balls off (again not literally). But as said, none of us know the facts
If being concerned for a young kid's mental state and the need for him to get himself sorted is soft, then I'm soft.
But you don't know he's got mental problems. His manager up there at Hibs is simply saying he needs to work hard on his fitness. If it were mental problems, you think he would be giving a different message. On that basis, I find it hard to have any sympathy for him. Our club so far has wasted more than £1million on him. But accepting that we just don't know.
you can’t. No way But you can blame him for not staying in peak condition, the minimum expectation of a professional athlete is commitment to fitness.
Or you can wonder why he's struggling? He's moved from club to club, suffered relegation with us shortly after joining, barely played in League One, and now back to Scotland. He's 21 not 28, he probably still needs a lot of guidance and support in growing his career, and likely hasn't had it from Grant.
