Saturday afternoon first leg of the composite rules.

You can catch the game here> http://www.tg4.ie/

For a change, Ireland have picked 4 serious players (I guess the rest are decent too). I doubt they'll all be on the field at the same time.

IRELAND SENIOR HURLING/SHINTY PANEL:

1. Patrick Mullaney - Laois (coalkeeper)
2. Joe Bergin - Offaly
3. Kieran Divilly - Kildare
4. Cormac Donnelly - Antrim
5. John Doran - Kildare
6. Arron Graffin - Antrim
7. Willie Hyland - Laois
8. Eoin Kelly - Tipperary
9. David Kennedy - Kildare
10. Damian Maguire - Tyrone
11. Brendan Maher - Tipperary
12. Shane Morley - Mayo
13. Tom Murnane - Kerry
14. Brendan Murtagh - Westmeath
15. Eoin Nolan - Carlow
16. Andy O'Brien - Wicklow
17. Eoin Price - Westmeath
18. Michael Rice – Kilkenny (capt)

May the best team prevail.

Hurling against Shinty.

It is a crap game that nobody really cares about, but it is worth a look.

I'll take a guess.

Is it throwing up verses having a dump?

That is the Ireland team <yikes> it is complete ****e. **** they really made an effort here by dipping into the hurling powerhouses of Tyrone, Carlow etc. Thats an embarassingly poor squad, and people give off at the Aussies for not putting out their best squad in the other compromise rules series.

I agree to an extent, but the games are close with players at this level. I guess they think they'll get a better crowd with a closer game than to see better players.

Hurling? Shinty?

Isn't that the game that lassies play at school? Hockey I think they call it.

Thanks Stopmeandslapme,

I appreciate that you are trying to maintain forum etiquette,
Quite why I am the only person for whom you feel the need to exercise this passion for order, I don’t know.
As with the last time you attempted to re-house my threads, again you are mistaken.
This is a composite rules game, and as such does not fit neatly under the banner of “Gaelic games”.
However, I would like to reiterate my thanks for your concern <ok>

Nah. Blokes running around waving sticks at each other. Seems a bit phallic. I'll pass.

Never been to a proper Hurling/Shinty match but have seen some ex-pats training on Wormwood Scrubs. Certainly not hockey that's for sure. No way would I want to be on the receiving end of the ball or the sticks they use.

There's a block of flats that overlooks the girls' school hockey court as in right next to it. I'm not waiting for one to come on the market, honest guv.

No problem Webs, a pleasure to help.

Now hurling is a Gaelic game and shinty is a Gaelic game but combine the two and it is no longer a Gaelic game?
