Sunderland visit Rotherham in the SkyBet League One Last time out Sunderland beat QPR in the Carabao Cup and Rotherham beat Man City (U21s) in the EFL Trophy. The Black Cats bounced back from losing their perfect home record to Charlton with an impressive performance against Championship opposition. Lee Johnson’s Sunderland were not fazed by a strong QPR side as they progressed to the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup. The victory after a penalty shoot out could be costly though as Denver Hume, Leon Dajaku and were withdrawn due to injury and Ross Stewart seemed to pick up a shoulder injury at the end of the game. Elliot Embleton is available after serving his three match ban. Rotherham are steadily moving up the table after a slow start, United sit one point below the Black Cats in 5th place. On loan striker Will Grigg is ineligible to play against his parent club. Lee Johnson: "You always fancy Burgey, how many times since I've been here has he made good penalty stops? I think he's got that presence, we do the research and we've got good takers as well.” "We've been good in penalty shoot-outs, it's something we really consider, it's not written on the back of a *** packet. We were composed, we were calm and you always fancy Burgey." "He's a really good shot-stopper because he's a really good goalkeeper, It's tough for goalkeepers because it's a one-man position, if you're a midfielder there might be three places from five and you're always in with a shout. "It's important we give Burgey the focus for the cup game and told him 10 days ago because it allowed to really hone in, and he was excellent along with the back-four. "Bar a 20-minute spell we were worth a draw and then the victory. In the second half I thought we were the better side. "The boys are battered and bruised but that's the tempo. If you want to compete at Championship level, which we want to do, this is a really good learning game. "I'd love Arsenal or Tottenham away [in the next round] and then wait for the really big guns when it's two legs." Paul Warne: “It was a pretty damn close faultless display, we were not faultless, and there are still things to improve upon, but it was very close.” “We had flashes of absolute excellence and that was down to the lads’ dedication. The out of possession stuff was frightening. “Dan (Barlaser) is a good kid. He is a bit of a quarter-back for us. He enables the other two midfielders to push on. He enables us to switch the play really quick. “We like to play with width. It was a really good performance from him and he was chaperoned by two energetic performances from Wilsey [Ben Wiles] and Ollie [Rathbone].” Match Appointments: Referee: DAVID ROCK Assistant Referees: Alan Clayton and Christopher Husband Fourth Official: Mark Jones Team Line ups Sunderland: Hoffmann, Cirkin, Doyle, Flanagan, Winchester, Evans, Neil, Embleton, McGeady, Stewart, Dajaku. At least Will Grigg can’t play against us as he would be odds on to score. I’m going for a 1-1 draw. Live Stream (Overseas fans only) https://www.safc.com/news/team-news/live-video Ha’way the Lads
Tough game. A strong physical side Rotherham with plenty of good players at L1 level. It’s not very often I say this down in this league but I’d take an away point here.
HA'WAY THE LADS MACKEMS ATTACKEM Great result in the cup, but a worry we've picked up a few injuries through it. My priority is still the league. That said, it's still great to get so far with the prospect of playing a premier League club. It's also great to see a squad that can fill in with youth and recovering players etc for those injured.
Rotherham v SAFC Wigan v Burton Plymouth v Ipswich There’s 6 of the top 10 involved in games against each other this weekend. Plenty of points dropped, if we were to win we’d be in a cracking position!
Tough one. They're flying and of course we played Tuesday. If we can avoid defeat it'd be a canny result, a win would be huge though.
RTB Voted win... Not sure if everyone injury free? Mcgeady is due a good game likewise Gooch.. Its away so tough... forget the cup, promotion is the only prize this season. Otherwise we are all but a permanent fixture in the turd division.
Rotherham is a large minster town and the principal settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham in South Yorkshire, England. The River Rother merges with the River Don. The River Don then flows through the town centre. Traditional industries included glass making and flour milling. Most around the time of the industrial revolution, it was also known as a coal mining town as well as a contributor to the steel industry. The town's Historic county is Yorkshire. From 1889 until 1974, the County of York's ridings became counties in their own right, the West Riding of Yorkshire was the town's county while South Yorkshire is its current county. Rotherham had a population of 109,691 in the 2011 census. The district borough, governed from the town, had a mid-2019 est. population of 265,411, the 60th most populous district in England. Famous people from Rotherham include the chuckle brothers ffs And David seamen. Not Gordon Banks, who was born in abbeydale Sheffield.
Big game, play with the tempo we did on Tuesday with those injured back in the frame then we've got a chance. After Charlton three points would be massive and why not as the squad has great belief. Great thread RTB, enjoy your break.
Great scene setter as per RTB, and I hope that 3 points ease the disappointment of not being in sunny south Yorks this weekend. OaU.
A win would be superb but I'm going for a draw which wouldn't be a bad result at all imo. 1-1, Gooch Great thread as always. HTL
Great thread as always RTB. The time and effort you spend on these threads is brilliant along with all the information. I think this is our toughest test of the season so far including QPR. A team playing full of confidence with good players and a team I think will be up there at the end of the season. It appears that they are a big strong outfit. That said they are playing us who should also be confident and I think it will be an open game which might just suit our counter attacking game. I will be happy with 4 points from the next 2 games not bothered how it happens so I am going for a 2 2 draw in this one.
this is the eqivellent of Peterboro away from last season i would take a draw right now, but fear the worst this might be Pompey all over again.
seen a couple of videos of rivers down there in full flood, hopefully only one part affected but they looked bad, right on bursting point, one had even flooded the road next to it and almost to the height of the wall on the other side of the road.
Think it’s important not to lose this one and am expecting a tight game. 1-1 for me, though heart says 1-2. Bart
