What do you think? Will it be a manufacturer like Renault or Ferrari, or a large global sponsor like Virgin or Red Bull? I'm inclined to think the former will be next, as there are many large manufacturers that could go into motorsport. I think it'll be someone from the VW family, there's plenty to choose from. Porsche is possible, but they are involved in a large amount of motorsport already (Carrera Cup, Le Mans, Touring Cars). Audi is more likely but I can't see them joining for a while as they are so heavily involved with Le Mans and DTM. Lamborghini: No. VW themselves is a real possibility, as the only motorsport they do is WRC, whch they've only recently signed up for, they have a very substantial amount of money, technology and I believe they could really contribute to Formua One. There's also Bugatti, but they'd probably sacrfice aerodynamic advantage for additional Rolex's on the bonnet and sidepods. On the other hand what if you could have the Top Gear F1 Team? That'd be very entertaning with radio messages of "That's not gone well","Oh cock" and "Bollocks". Not to mention made-up sponsors names that say something funny every time you open the doors. Oh wait...
I think it'll be someone like Prodrive but with some money coming from a maufacturer. I don't think it'll happen for quite a while. I think it's more likely that someone will buy HRT before we get an brand new team. I think a buyer of HRT will most likely be private buyer.
When is Bernie going to open up the 13th slot on the grid again, incidentally? I can't see it being anyone without major backing though. I also think that whoever it is should get longer than the 6 months Lotus, Virgin and HRT had to design their cars, otherwise they'll be off the pace of THEM.
What about something from the middle east? There are plenty of rich guys thier who claim to be big on motorsport! Or how about TATA bringing Jaguar back to F1?
im preety sure that VW said that they want to be engine suppliers in the future but not team owners. i think that aston martin could set one up. in the entry list that the FIA had to choose from astpon martin was o that list. i think that they could afford it and say that they make it to the top it would be interesting to see mclaren ferrari and aston martin fight it out on the track and in the sales rooms (redbull would be in the title hunt as well, i didnt include them because their not a car manufacturer)
Would quite like this: please log in to view this image As for VW, they're considering a move very soon (widest definition possible): http://en.espnf1.com/fia/motorsport/story/55465.html
If a car manufacturer was to enter they would probably start by supplying engines first, and due to the rule changes due to be drafted in I don't think it will happen until the switch to turbos, it's generally the way they enter as Honda, Mercedes, Toyota, Honda and Renault started. Outside of Europe, possibly Tata. I think more likely is the sale of Virgin or HRT, although HRT has already been sold twice in under 2 seasons, the most recent in July, so I can't see it being sold yet. It's always better to buy existing teams as you don't have to shell out the £25m deposit
Jaguar. Who supply engines to Mclaren. Who keep their current drivers. And paint their cars with a St George cross. And then stick it to Jonny Foreigner.
The whole idea of a silly (in my opinion) 4 cylinder engine was to accommodate VW, who subsequently changed their collective mindset. However, when the global economy finally recovers (in about 35 years?), VW/Audi are the most likely manufacturer to come in. Porsche is part of the VW/Audi Group, but the brand has no need to seek promotion through F1, since it is more than accommodated by ceaseless participation in - and domination of - road-based sports cars. But with VW, Honda might be another possibility, since they tend to go through phases of entering high-profile motorsport; and they certainly have the money! And if Honda come back, Toyota might also feel the need not to be out-done by their arch-rivals. As for non-manufacturer possibilities, Dave Richards (of Prodrive) who has genuine links to the Aston Martin name is a better bet than some non-existent American dream, who were able to con Bernieâ¦
That's the Indian owned Jaguar is it? Are they going to be sticking it to Lewis and Jenson because their engines keep breaking down or ...?
Cosi. is this 4 cylinder 1.6L engine format dead now. And yes, Prodrive are the most likely outfit to enter F1, funds permitting of course, and are you totally sure we are in a Global recession, the company I work for have had the best figures ever and all but all the engineering companies both national and international I deal with are stacked with work, strange, eh.
