Just because Valery has been playing there in training, that doesn't mean Ralph even thinks he has potential at CB. He might just be playing CB to improve his understanding of the game, or his positional awareness etc.

I'd be deeply surprised if we suddenly played Valery at CB for this one. I think we might get to see Lyanco, but not Valery in that position.

Would be a worry if Valery is ahead of Lyanco. Only way I'd be comfortable with either Valery or Lyanco at CB tonight is in a back three alongside Bednarek and Salisu. Chelsea's threat from corners in the last game was causing us a huge problem in the first half (and resulted in their first goal), and we can't afford to drop either of our established CBs for this reason alone.

Well that fortunately won't happen as Lukaku is out.

    That might make sense actually.

Look, the other thing is, we've all weirdly decided that Valery is the worst CB in Saints history since Richard Dryden. You never know, Ralph might actually have a point...

...but yeah. Not sure if this is the game I'd be keen on him making that point.

I know we haven't seen much of Valery lately, but he was never exactly the toughest of players. Gets shoved off the ball even by wingers. Can't exactly see him being a commanding presence in the area. And Chelsea have some of the best crossers of a ball in the league.

In a back three it might make sense, similar to when Bertrand used to play in a back three.

Maybe he is seeing what he can offer in training as he is comfortably third choice right back and isn’t getting a game there unless both KWP and Livramento are out

    I’m hoping for

    Forster

    Walker-Peters
    Lyanco
    Salisu
    Perraud

    Romeu (c)
    Diallo

    S Armstrong
    Tella

    Adams
    A Armstrong

If Valery plays it will hopefully be instead of Perraud rather than at CB, which sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, he’s been better as an attacking midfielder than a full back as it is. I also want KWP to get some time in his pref position before he gets fed up and decides to leave, Livramento is great but he is probably here for a good time not a long time, KWP could still be our longer term RB…

Looking forward to seeing Small, and it will be good to have Smallbone back.

Surely just turning up in a Saints shirt should be enough proof that you are a negative supporter. Whenever I wear mine, going to a match, my mood is always verging on the negative.

Just posting a tweet of what a journalist said, who speaks to Ralph directly every week.
