This is the first social network that I have signed up to and then actually stuck with, larger sites like 606, Facebook and Twitter have never interested me. I have tried all of these sites and others. The main reason I have stuck with this site is the small group of like minded individuals that I have struck up a friendship with. The other main reason is obviously Liverpool FC. It seems that some people stick with the board and others tend to leave over time for various reasons. KPR was always on the verge of being banned and then was actually banned under another name and for good reason in my opinion as he was never part of the community but just someone who was tolerated due to his colours. Muppet Finder General is another worth mentioning, he always had an alternative view and was interesting to read. Skylarkers recent self eviction was interesting, he was someone that everyone liked but felt he had to leave and for what I thought were good reasons, those being the recent increase in negative threads and the cross board threads causing friction in what was a fairly harmonious community. The community has recently developed into a funny but sometimes fractious relationship with the Manchester United board and I was pleased that some of the so called enemy jumped to our defense when we were invaded by negative posters and threads, they have also supported us in our campaigns. It's hard to stick with something that we don't like, why should we? We are human and can do what we like. The one thing that we can do is support our club, we can ignore the nonsense that is sometimes posted on this board and we can have fun with the people that we have become friends with. I would love to be talking to the same bunch of guys in 10 years time and hope that I am. So balls to the idiots that want to destroy this, lets just forget about them and keep this going. Remember, You'll Never Walk Alone.
Nice article gonz, maybe the events of the last couple of weeks will have a positive effect on the future of the site. As Liverpool supporters we seem to have to fight/argue for our club more than be able to post positives about it lately, and your spot on about the lads from up the east lancs jumping in for us(and fair play to them),I do think that if a prospective new member visits the site the first thing he or she should'nt see is the GC forum, why cant it be moved to the bottom of the homepage? because after all this is predominently a football related site.
you have really hit the nail on the head. I do feel there are two types of people, the first are the group you describe. like minded or likable characters you sort of develop an understanding with. I myself had for about 4 years such an understanding with a 606 liveprool group. To my chagrin i brought some of them to sporting witness where a much worse situation ensued. Said 660 liverpool club has a few members here but most are on ja606. The utd fans you speak of are just the same as us, a group of people interested in that understanding. the second group though are those who are not interested in any sort of regular interaction or undersantding but love to score points and wind other up. So if the owners of the site don't see that I'm sorry about it, one group deserves its space from the other group.
If the cross threads are removed or made manageable it will make it easier to moderate threads again and the forum should go back to normal until then restraint is needed and that also goes for us mods, I was guilty of losing my temper and should have though before posting.
Everything seemed a lot better yesterday. Let's hope it stays that way. I hope to speak to sky at lunchtime and get his views on when/if he's coming back.
i think it's less busy for sure. now the thing is both groups i outlined have thinned so i'm afraid the thing is the super mods and owners have not made an announcment of any sort so i don't know if the wums have simply got a new target on another board or that they are just under control or are just waiting for the weekend. the fact is the good posting of articles has vanished a bit right now and today the board is not busy with regular users. that said it is a friday.
I use facebook generally to insult my friends and stalk women.... clearly I do not post the kind of vileness I do on here... I have never been on twitter though have thought it could be a good way of insulting celabrities...
Balls to em big man!! I think we forget about that ignore button a lot too, or if a thread is clearly wum to just ignore them and move on as you say. Works for me ( especially when KPR was around!)
I just hope that what I have written gets a few people thinking a bit differently and ultimately changes their mind if they were thinking of leaving.
Sorry to disappoint you sugar tits but I've decided I'm staying. As UiR pointed out other forums are **** anyway and this one at least has some goods lads on this. At the end of the end the good contributors far outway the bad ones
