Dammit, somebody could've warned me we were going through another round of the Levy Out drinking game...
Bloody hell, over on r/coys there's people calling for Kjetil Knutsen to get the job based off Bodo and/or Glimt's win over Roma the other night Anyone remember when there were people on Old606 calling for Phil Brown to get the job because Hull won their first three or four league games?
There's criticism and then there's rattling off the same tedious bullet points you see on Twitter, such as moaning about the NFL or moaning about the golf course, which can be taken about as seriously as some kneejerk call for a manager who had one good result that week being the best contender to manage us because it's like listening to a teenager yelling at being asked to wash the dishes
I stay well away from social media... especially Twitter so have no idea what is being said on there or else where.
He also failed to beat this Norwich team: Potter's doing a good job at Brighton, but there are issues he doesn't seem to address. His side definitely don't score enough goals when they're on top, for a start.
I think when it comes to Levy, certainly on here anyway, there's generally reasoned debate and views on him either side of the fence. I've often found myself in the middle, especially in recent times, I'm neither Pro nor Anti Levy. I think from a stature and infrastructure perspective he's done phenomenal. Whilst I much preferred WHL to the TH Stadium I appreciate we need the latter to be able to compete and we have the best training ground in Europe which has already helped pay some dividends with the production and development of talent - something the manager(s) need to tap into more. But I think he's managed to distance a lot of fans from the footballing aspects, partly down to poor decisions with managers/ signings as well as his occasional prudence, the ESL debacle really tarnished him and the club, not to forget interfering at times with footballing decisions that in a way shouldn't be his to make (refusing to let Dele go against the manager's wishes being a recent example). Though I'd say his biggest issue, certainly from my perspective anyway, is how much he exploits the fan's loyalty by charging extortionate prices. That for me has really put me off the club, I've been going Spurs regularly for 15/16 years now and I've been a ST holder for about 6 of those and it's the least I've enjoyed it, I'm constantly questioning whether I want to renew and will likely stop if prices go much higher, it's simply not worth it no matter how much you love the club.
The issue of price is inextricably linked to value. The highest priced ticket in football needs to come with a product that leads people to want to pay that price and believe that it's worthwhile continuing to do so. In the summer, Levy promised a return to the club's DNA. The only reason for the, normally silent, Chairman to do that was an increasing number of fans realising that the value's just not there and choosing not to renew. This season will only serve to make the situation worse because the words were very clearly just words. Now, nobody at the club can come up with the words to placate the Supporters Trust and Daniel's fallen silent again.
Two points on that. Borrowing money to pay for self funding infrastructure is both much easier and a lot cheaper than borrowing money to spend on footballers or managers. The first is allowed by ffp regulations and the second isn't. Given the second point the covenants for the stadium loans probably restrict our ability to borrow for anything else.
If the club sold The Goods Yard, they wouldn't have to borrow money...or ENIC could put make an interest free loan, as they did to kick start the training ground. It's not technical difficulties or the banks that prevent the club sorting out the failing football side of the business, they just don't see a return on it.
I'm not talking about previous years, but in the last couple of windows I think they're being cautious. The coronavirus shutdowns and lack of crowds has made a lot of clubs very shot shy. I don't think it's a coincidence that there are 6 clubs with only 3 wins between them right now. Owners and chairmen without unlimited funds are ****ting it.
We're continuing to invest - the club's taken on the development of the golf course, right in the middle of Covid. Whilst the initial acquisition cost is small, there's going to be a significantly large development cost. There's no sign of the development side of the business being restricted and if the money was required to buy into an NFL franchise, it would be found. I have no doubt about that. It's all about priorities and football is nowhere near the top of them.
One thing that does seem to be sticking out at the moment with Nuno is that there is still a reliance on individual brilliance to get on on the scoreboard, rather than the system itself doing so Obviously there's times where a stodgy team with one player doing everything can work, for example AVB was one suspiciously bad goalkeeping performance from Marton Fulop away from Champions League football with Gareth Bale covering for the stodgy buildup play while Solskjaer simply would've been out of a job halfway through last season if Fernandes couldn't score a penalty, but on the flip side all it takes is a bad game from Son or Kane or a predictably ****e refereeing performance and individual brilliance isn't all it's cracked up to be Ultimately that's why Thursday was such a trainwreck, because the only players on the pitch capable of moments of brilliance were Gil, Bergwijn and Lo Celso - and with Bergwijn unfit and Lo Celso playing deep because we're trying to reignite Dele in spite the most pressing question being whether a can of petrol and a match could ignite Dele at this point, of the three options only Gil was realistically going to do something
Goals in all competitions.. 15 games F21 A20 Chances created / on target F 165 / 66 A 202 / 62 Av chances 11 Av prem chances 10 League Cup Goals F2 A2 chances / on target F12/4 A9/6 ECL Goals F10 A5 (8 in 2 games)...failed to score twice F62/22 A57/15 PL Goals F9 A13 ... failed to score in 3 games F91/40 A136/41 Any way we look at this a team with the players we have should be creating and scoring more. The players are responsible but so is the manager...players don't get sacked...managers do... bye bye Nuno
Which decent manager is going to come to Spurs to work under the constraints of Levy and ENIC. They have destroyed Spurs reputation in such a way that no decent manager will touch us with a barge pole. Levy wants a Yes Man to come in and work within a paltry budget, the likes of Conte etc realize they would have no chance and run a mile. Limited backing in the transfer market Unhappy players wanting out Defensive and boring football The ESL fiasco Furloughing staff No real ambition More interested in Guns and Roses, boxing and the NFL etc Can’t even secure naming rights for the fancy new shopping mall Etc RIP Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.
