A championship football club with probably a reasonable squad value of 20m (transfermarkt estimate 12m without KLP as an 8m.asset) If Kieran Maguire is saying its probably worth 20-25m then it probably is.
You keep combining two different points in time depending on the point you're arguing. Either we're talking the summer straight after relegation - which Bruce stayed on through - or we're talking the summer he left, where we were a newly promoted PL club with decent funds behind us.
It does feel like Assem wants to sell now. That's come from several different sources, the HDM, Phil Bucks & people on here & I reckon we're pretty attractive. Decent stadium (don't own though), low wage bill, promising players, a few assets and lots of FFP room. I don't suppose there will be a shortage of interest. And even if we get relegated, I don't think that will put off a serious bidder with long term intentions, it'll just lower the asking price. In some ways it's safer to wait for us to be relegated, instead of taking over us now, throwing money at it in Jan when we'll no doubt be well off the pace and praying we stay up.
I think even if/when the sale goes through, the squad itself is promising enough that a new manager and a sprinkling of new signings should be enough.
It we are in due diligence then heads of terms will already have been signed and that will determine the final sale price depending on the variables involved in the deal. What worries me is that in 4 or 5 weeks time we could be adrift on current form and that potentially (I assume) could affect the success of any deal. We see plenty of biggish clubs struggle to get out of. League 1 and it could cost. Millions and take years to get us back where we currently are. Surely If the takeover is a while away then the Allams need to do something to protect their asset. Its only heading 1 direction currently.
I agree though that 3 or 4 proven additions would see us safe, but we could be already down by the next window as things stand. *ooops. Should have been an edit not quote my own post. Ah well.
Don't think that's going to be the case, plenty of sides in the bottom 6-8 will drop enough points that some additions and a new manager can get us up the table.
Fingers crossed, but when you're cut adrift then everything works against you in football. Including attracting the signings you need.
My worry with January is that we'll lose the good players we do have. And there definitely are some. Not just Greaves and KLP but people like Elder, Coyle, Docherty, Honeyman. All good players even at this level I'd say, and you'd think if we're looking like going down there'll be vultures circling. We'll obviously need to strengthen but we'll also need to keep what we've got, which might require us to pick up our form ahead of the window.
I can't see new owners buying the club then flogging the assets they've just bought. But I do think the time might come if a deal is a bit away that the Allams might have to take it into their own hands to protect their asset. If its relatively imminent then of course they'll leave it for the new regime.
I don't think ulrika is arguing just for arguments sake. I think he's a genuine enough poster who's contributions have had value in the past. I suspect he's repeating what he's been told from someone with a club connection. What you do with that is up to you. For me there's usually 2 sides to an argument and the truth is usually somewhere in between the 2 so let's give the lad a break eh? Whether you think what he's been told is bollocks or not you can't reasonably conclude that he hasn't been told it. Let's not shoot the messenger eh?
I'm not trying to do that, just pointing out that when it suits him he's talking about either summer to try to justify his point, either deliberately or unintentionally, and it makes following the discussion very difficult.
I suspect there were probably tensions rumbling between manager and owners for some time before it came to a head.
Indeed, but I'm referring to conflating the Powell and Gray missed signings, the fact Bruce wanted a budget going back into the PL and he kept referring to us as having just been relegated, etc.
He might well be referring to the cumulative spend that led to the first PL relegation. That would have covered the first 2 seasons of Bruce's tenure.
It's easy to get sidetracked by the minutia when it comes to recalling events from half a decade ago. That's just the nature of this kind of discussion format.
The claim was that Bruce spent £80m for that season, the amount spent as explained in note 11, shows it was actually half that amount. The £80m is the total squad cost and includes players like Rosenior, Chester, Brady, Jakupovic etc, who Bruce didn't even sign. Immediately after that accounting period, ahead of the following promotion season, we cashed in on £25m of those players as well. With a squad that had cost £60m, over the previous five years, he still managed to take us straight back up, guaranteeing another £200m in income (and with a squad worth much more than the £60m he'd paid for it). Financially, Bruce was fantastic for us.
Agreed. I think the Allams are devious ****ers who play people. I think knowing urika a little off here then ehab will have played on his concerns for the club, which comes first and foremost with urika. And he’s believed that. Don’t get me wrong lots of managers spend spend spend and it’s a disaster. But Bruceys signings here were nothing short of fantastic tbh. Ehabs looked at it and thought I can do that, sign players and sell them for a great profit it’s easy.
