This might seem extreme, but I'd rather keep McCann.

The Nobends don't have a lot of good things to say about Neil or his mate and successor McAvoy.

He managed to get Norwich promoted, then relegated, then got sacked. He then got Preston to a playoff final, then got sacked. He also did well at Hamilton Accies, but I don't think I've ever heard a fan of any club he's managed to be positive about him.

I hadn't heard anything, but it feels like another cheap appointment with the short term in mind.

Bit of a daft response that when Slutsky's squad was very good for championship level. I couldn't care how much of a nice guy he was, his short spell in charge was a complete disaster and his recruitment (complete waste of a lot of money) is a big reason why we're in this current ****ty predicament that we've been in for a number of years now.

I'm not sure it was his recruitment. We'd moved to the DOF model by then hadn't we?

Whose recruitment? Slutsky didn't have a hand in signings.

He wasn't immediately sacked by Norwich after the relegation iirc. He was given almost a full season back in the Championship but binned in March as they were 9 points outside the play-offs.

He was dealt a very ****ty hand, players leaving a sinking ship, and he was desperate to just keep the squad together.

He was the one that urged us to wait all summer for Chelsea kids, only to not get the ones (Boga) we expected and it left a mad scramble where we completely ****ed it. I think LD had just come into his position

I never understand these types of comments as the recruitment has shifted with every manager. Slutsky wanted Chelsea kids and basically anyone that played well against us, Adkins tried to go to Scotland a fair bit, and then Grant has gone L1/L2. I think it's fair to say that the managers have a big say in recruitment.

Slutsky has said in subsequent interviews he was made promises on signings that never materialised. It was Darnborough that was head of recruitment at the time, so the signings made were Darno's.

Still, he should have done better with what he had.

Not really, the squad still had plenty of quality e.g. Abel, Meyler, Grosicki, Bowen, Dawson etc

What recruitment? Poor **** said in an interview with the HDM that nearly every other day he turned up during pre-season, a player came into his office to say he was leaving. First it was Davies, then Maguire to Leicester, then Tymon rejected the piss-poor contract offered by the club and went to Stoke, then Huddlestone joined Davies at Derby, then Jak joined Maguire at Leicester, then Elmo ****ed off to be with Bruce at Villa, then Robbo went to Liverpool, then finally Clucas went to Swansea. He had little hand in signing the replacements. Kevin Stewart was part of the Robbo deal ffs!

I couldn't care less what he said, and that doesn't make it LD's signings. He wanted Chelsea loanees, specifically Boga & waited all window for them only to not get them. That then sent us on a mad frenzy. The recruitment was on him too, he might have been promised more but you don't put all your eggs in one basket and he did.

I think it was probably Ehab who wanted anyone that played well against us. Who did Adkins sign from Scotland? Adkins and Grant had very similar recruitment profiles, a mix of low-end Championship signings (Lichaj and Long for Adkins v Lopes and Ingram for McCann) as well as punts from PL clubs (Burke v Elder), and picking up a few players from left field (De Wijs and Milinkovic v McLoughlin and Balogh). Under McCann we dipped more into League One than Adkins had but think that was by virtue of our diminishing budget more than anything. McCann would have recommended players, just like any manager would, but if any of our managers had the least hand in signings, it would have been Slutsky, so bashing him for signings seems to most nonsensical.

Perhaps. Perhaps not but Darno signed em off.

Okay, Slutsky was cack in the Championship and had the grace to admit he wasn't good enough and left.

McCann is a worse manager by every measure and he's also an arrogant **** currently stealing a living from the club whilst he talks ****e about 'the formula'.

    Is that better?

The Abel who was out injured for Slutsky's entire reign you mean? Bowen was a kid just breaking into the first team that season, don't re-write history.

You're completely guessing though. All the managers under the Allams have been in control of signings (apart from the end of Bruce's reign). To magically think Slutsky wasn't just doesn't seem right. He came into the club with a huge reputation as he'd done very well elsewhere & he'd been studying the Championship for 6 months, he'll have seen players he wanted. I don't think it's unrealistic at all to say he had a similar say in signings to that of his predecessors.

Adkins tried a mix, and although we didn't sign anyone from Scotland apart from Milinkovic (although his parent club was in Italy), we were heavily linked with Scott McKenna & Kipre.
