Gay Football Players.

The Question I would like to ask posters on this if a player you admired came out and said he was gay would you change towards that player?

I have a reason for asking this question as my son is gay.
He told me first because we are very close and his sister is a daddies girl, just like I was with my Father.

When he told me I was bereft and couldnt stop crying, not for me but for him.
He's a good looking boy and had gone out with girls but at the end of the day he told me it didnt fell right.

Most of you on here are very young and wont know how it feels to be a parent, but at the end of the day you want to see them settled down with a happy family like their own. I realized this wouldnt happen for my son and even know it tears me apart.

So for a couple of weeks we kept to ourselves, then came the night to tell his dad and sister. Nothing no shouting just hugs and understanding, my daughter even though she has never told me has a few gay friends and a couple of the lads my husband work with have gay family and friends.

I have told my friends and they have been very supported.

My son's none gay friends have been fantastic and have not changed towards him at all, which was a worry for me as a lot of them go back to schoolday's.

Dont, keep back with your gay jokes, they will not offend it's part and parcel of life.

So back to my question if a players came out would you change towards that player.

 

If Xisco scored for us I'd celebrate just as much as I would any other goal.

I wouldn't like a player any more of less just because of his sexuality. Although I think there would be less homo-erotic feelings for Cabaye if he was actually gay.

Oh, and I'm anticipating an AH is gay joke within the next 7 comments.

Xisco is meant to be gay, and there are numerous pictures of him kissing men, but he's not exactly a star or even a first team regular with a reputation that would be changed by it becoming public knowledge.

 

It wouldnt change my opinion of any of our players at all. I put gay people into 2 "camps"(what a **** joke ),subtle and in your face. I have worked with gay guys before, the subtle one's I can handle and find to be very nice people but the in your face one's do my tits in,basically just bitchy backstabbing women.

No. As long as that player continues to play well and give's 100% for the club, I couldn't care about anything else about him. It might just have been a rumour but didn't we sell Darren Ambrose because our players were scared to be in the dressing room with him which is understandable because I would be a bit fearful going in the showers while knowing he was watching me. I modern society though there is nothing wrong with being gay. One of my mates at school came out and no one acts any different around him other than the odd few jokes. Perhaps AH would be the best person to ask though

He's not a ladyboy just an ordinary lad who just hapens to be gay.

 

I'd be embarrassed for the sport if a player did come out and there was any sort of negative reaction. Homophobia shouldn't be tolerated in sport, same as racism. (only Justin Fashanu has come out to date I think, and he killed himself in the 80s).

It's the 21st century FFS - being gay is perfectly normal. Unfortunately it still has a stigma attached. I wouldn't be too upset for your son though, the gay people I know have been so much happier since they've come out.

A player being gay wouldn't change my opinion of him at all. Being gay is as natural as being straight, it's just not as common.
