Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is upbeat about securing the future of captain Fabricio Coloccini whose contract is due to expire this season.
The 29-year-old has been influential in the Magpies' impressive start to the Premier League campaign.
"It's about Fabricio and if he agrees to the contract then all well and good," Pardew told BBC Newcastle.
"We feel we can get the deal done - the more success we have the more chance we have of a player saying 'I'll stay'."
Pardew added: "We're ok, that's the only sign I can give you, because there are two parties here.
"The financial position we're getting ourselves in gives us a better chance to maybe compete a little bit stronger for those players who get interest."
Coloccini has made 120 appearances since joining Newcastle from Deportivo la Coruna in August 2008, scoring five goals.

Owner Mike Ashley has been a prominent character at St James' Park since taking a majority stake in the club in May 2007, and has not always been a popular figure with supporters.
The exits of Kevin Keegan and Chris Hughton, both managers well liked by supporters, in addition to the departure of big name players and relegation to the Championship have all occurred during his reign, although recent impressive form and Pardew's relations with the board have begun to sway the Newcastle public.
Since taking over as manager from Hughton in December 2010, Pardew has won 12 and drawn 13 of 33 games in charge.

This season the Magpies remain unbeaten in eight league games, are fourth in the Premier League and secured progress to the third round of the Carling Cup.
"I think now Mike is in a good place," Pardew said.
"He feels the game is a different business to what he usually runs and he understands that now, and I think he wants to trust the team with transfers, he trusts Derek Llambias [managing director], he trusts Graham Carr [chief scout] and he trusts me.

"I convinced him I could bring success, no matter what the finance was."
Among the newcomers to Tyneside this summer were France international Yohan Cabaye, Senegal forward Demba Ba and Italy under-21 defender Davide Santon.
The club's recent mission statement stated that "rash, short-term spending is not the answer", and also pinpointed the targeting of players "who can develop and fulfil their potential at Newcastle United".

"The new players who have come in have done well," Pardew said.
The former Southampton, West Ham United and Reading boss has also targeted additions to the Magpies squad and is confident the club can secure the striker he feels the fans crave after Andy Carroll's exit last season.

Newcastle were unable to sign a striker before Carroll's departure, or during the August transfer window, but Pardew has earmarked January as a chance to strengthen his side.

He's had a cracking season for us so far, really would like him to stay for as long as possible.

After listening to him on the radio phone in last night I'd say he definitely wants him to stay (having said that, we heard the same about Barton and Nolan)!

A strong indicator for me, was Jonas signing his contract...Just got to keep our fingers crossed!

Probably, but Nolan was probably already identified by the club to be given the boot, as for Barton...he was given a long offer that the club thought was good enough, and we know the rest...

 

Colo will sign a new deal as long as his place is guarunteed for another few seasons (which it will be) in my opinion, it looks as though he loves it here.

Also no one will understand his daughter anywhere else on the planet now, she'l have to walk around with sub titles.

 

I'm hoping he stays, there seems to be some uncertainty about his contract.
Anyone know when it does run out?
