    Did the next best thing

Streamed but had the window closed and watched some other stuff,
opened the window whenever the voice of the Russian commentators raised
(which over 90 mins I think I could count those times on one hand) .

Well it’s because you’re absolute cack for a start, mate.

Though he makes a point about how the selection yesterday doesn’t help morale and Charlie Eccleshare actually mentioned that as a possibility before the game yesterday.

Making two completely different XIs is almost guaranteed to demoralise the B team. They know they’re second choice, they know that even with a good performance (no danger there though) that they still probably won’t get a start in the league and therefore know they’re only playing in games perceived as less important. It’s also a lot harder to stand out in a B team too so it’s not just a case of saying they should be motivated to do well and prove themselves to the manager. The team will be disjointed and lack cohesion as well as sharpness and it’s why young players like Scarlett look even more out of depth than they would be because they’re feeding off scraps and just looking lost. Gil was at least lively yesterday but didn’t really impact the game like he probably could if he were alongside Kane, Son and co.

    A mess. Aka Nuno-ball.

They had not even scored a goal against English opposition previously.

I don't know who Peter Drury supports (i actually quite like his commentary in the main), but he didn't have to be quite so happy when they scored, or as effusive that it was so deserved, because whilst we were truly abysmal it wasn't as though Gollini was exactly busy (probably a good job he doesn't inspire confidence)

Drury was on the official overseas Premier League commentary for the Newcastle game:
    https://www.reddit.com/r/coys/comments/qb5z8m/commentary_for_newcastle_v_tottenham_youd_think/

Not as bad as Martin Tyler, but still jumping on the sportswashing bandwagon.
Guess he was still pissed off that we shat on their blood money unveiling.

If anything, the fact certain players - most obviously Dele - fail to stand out in a B-team is going to erode confidence, On that note, seeing Scarlett getting PO'd as the game wore on as we insisted on playing it long to him as if he was Niall Quinn or something also doesn't help - but it also underlines one issue that bugs me today

This morning there's been a few headlines of how Bergwijn had less touches that Gollini, which puts Bergwijn at fault...which only serves to be a damning indictment of the quality of muckrakers these days, because the only way that criticism makes sense if it's of Bergwijn is if he's an attacking FB, as otherwise the fault is plainly with the players who weren't getting the ball to him and/or failing to create space

With no attacking FBs stretching them out wide, and a headless chicken as a No10 while Lo Celso got dumped back into the pivot again, no **** Bergwijn wasn't getting as much of the ball

Yeah I’m surprised at Gollini, thought he’d be a lot better than he’s been. Atalanta’s been a real goldmine for talent under Gasperini and considering Gollini helped get them into the CL for multiple seasons he doesn’t look like a keeper with that sort of pedigree. It’s not easy being a backup keeper but you’d still think there’d be things he’d be better on.

That’s also pretty much been my argument for Kane (and Scarlett) this season. Fans and media kept talking about how he was underperforming and not interested but when you’re not being given the ball what are you meant to do? Kane ended up dropping into central midfield at times just to get it.

Last couple league games we’ve gotten the ball further up the pitch and it’s no real surprise he’s looked a damn site better.

It also has to be said that, if somebody plays it long to Harry Kane, he can do something with it as he's got the physique for it - but Scarlett can't as he's shorter and is probably another season's worth of gym work before he stops being bullied off the ball consistently. Of course we were going to habitually give up the ball because of that - which is also the main argument against using Dele as a false nine, which keeps doing the rounds for whatever reason, because he'd just as easily get outmuscled by defenders as Scarlett was last night

I was and still am an advocate of him sorting out a regular best starting XI for the first team and am prepared to go with a Second XI in cup games against lesser teams, up to a point...

...and that point is "Where are the ****ing subs, Nuno?" We didn't pack a Plan B...and with only a very young kid up front and that 'midfield', that's a huge error.

Last night's bench was what you pick when you've already qualified from the group stage and don't give a **** about the result...and boy, did we play like that. If we'd made some changes on the hour, like we did against Mura, we don't lose that game...and there's a chance that we win it.

I'm at a loss as to what we should do next, should we not turn up on Sunday. There's no magic fix to this squad and nobody of any quality's coming to replace for Nuno, should Levy decide to axe him mid-season. Nuno's appointment was depressingly lacking in any ambition.

What the ****'s next? Another go at begging Poch...more of the same with another mid-table, unemployed coach?...a complete punt, like Arsenal ended up with in Arteta...or do we go back for Gattuso?

Make no mistake, if we pick another throw away chump as our next manager, we'll be joining Arsenal in having no European football and we will be back in mid-table for the first time since before BMJ.

That's what I've been saying, no issues with rotation but resting the whole first XI was frankly one of the dumbest bits of management I've seen in a long list of dumb bits in recent years. Having a few game changers on the bench would've literally done that - changed the game.

Vitesse are not a **** side from somewhere in Eastern Europe we've not head of, they're a solid team in the Eredivisie and we shouldn't treated them as so.

We as a club are not too good for this competition and we're not too good to be dismissing a team like them with the squad we selected.

As for Sunday, I've already said we not only need to win now but win well. You don't rest your first XI for a game only for them to not turn up or scrape a flukey win. Frankly I'd sack him now if it were down to me but I don't think I'll be getting my wish anytime soon, albeit an embarrassing defeat on Sunday could put wheels in motion.

As for replacement, you and I both know who it should be. Brighton will want a huge fee, pay it, he's worth paying for as much as any player we may need at the moment. Give him a wage that represents a manager at a big six club to entice him, give him a five year deal and let him get to work. If for whatever reason he can't be got, offer similar to ten Hag. They're the two standouts for me.

To be fair to Scarlett, he was just getting fouled constantly.
The way that we were playing didn't suit him, but the bullying was often way more physical than what free-kicks were being given for.
He also put in a real shift, tracked back, closed down and made runs.
It's too early for him, but he didn't give up. Even won the ball deep a few times before he was hooked.

Winks says he struggles to understand what has happened...

That sentence sums up everything wrong with professional footballers

It wasn't the the kid's fault and last night's performance followed on directly from his first half against Mura, but against a better and more physical team. He didn't give up and that'll stand him in great stead for the future...but right now the lad needs a pathway to the first team.

Playing in this scratch side ain't it. If we'd actually bought a replacement for Vinicius, Scarlett would be out on loan with Parrott.

I think on the showings of the last few games he needs more time with the 23s. He’s clearly got boatloads of potential and is capable of playing up the age groups but mens football looks a step too far for him right now in terms of physicality. He’s only 17. If we were able to get a backup to Kane in January and Scarlett can start every game for the 23s and get his confidence back, that would be ideal. Because he’s too easily physically bullied right now and it’s going to affect his mentality.

Moving him wider would give him half a chance, but you're probably right, that's where he is physically.

I don't generally agree with the concept of changing the team wholesale unless you are in the happy position of being able to field two equal different teams that should be able to win which is what City, United and Chelsea can approximately do.
However last night's match was by some distance the least important of the season. Losing it doesn't take first in the group out of our hands and winning it wouldn't have made us sure to qualify. The three matches next week are all far more important and may justify the best XI not travelling.

I think that most if not all agree but for a team with Dele, Sanchez, Lo celso, Bergwijn, Davies, Winks, Gil and Tanganga (at least 5 full internationals and 6 of them with CL experiences) is really unacceptable.

Unfortunately, I have to include the manager for selecting such an unbalanced team and failing to make tactical and substitutional changes until far too late.

Out of the eight players I have named I would happily see Winks, Sanchez, Dele and Bergwijn being given free transfers so they never play for us again.
The performances are simply unacceptable and have been for as long as I can remember.

I would happily see Lo Celso sold if we got a bid over £10m for him.
