Mr Pearson says everyone is not on the bus. He indicates players are passengers. Weird metaphor but if players are not buying in why not? Mr Pearson has bought in players who should be displaying qualities he desires in his XI. Looking in and no longer frequently watching BCFC it appears little has been improved. Aspects of play e.g possession are incredibly low = reversing. Chance creation low. There are agains v seasons past agains. Home form abysmal. What has Mr Pearson actually improved and who are his leaders and architects that will push his vision forward? ‘I feel for the fans’ - Pearson | Bristol City (bcfc.co.uk)
We are not playing consistently well, that much is obvious, i'm sorry but creation has improved along with having more attempts + more on target, sadly what is not happening is capitalising on those chances and sadly those chances are coming at vital moments during games for us, either early in games or at a time when could and should have gone 2 goals up, those misses have and still are killing us, we have never been in a position to see games out comfortably and until that changes, it will continue to be a struggle. Over the past 3 seasons we saw games with 1 or 2 shots with nothing on target and nothing like a chance created. To be fair out of the 3 main signings Atkinson has been a revelation, Tanner has shown that he has a lot to offer and James is trying to command midfield and to be fair we haven't yet been out muscled in that department, outplayed but not out muscled, the tendency that has been a bane for 3 seasons or more of dropping off deep at least 2 metres after scoring doesn't help, I said on another post I am not entirely sure that James is fully fit. We need to take our chances like we did at Reading and QPR, until that happens we will struggle, we missed very good chances v Blackpool, Swansea, Luton, Fulham and Forest and all at times to influence the final outcome of games and make the seeing out of those games far easier.
Again very well put with your comments- NPs main signings Tanner-Atkinson-James are what is need elsewhere. I really think our problems are up front-Martin-Wells-Weinman just don't score enough. I would give some of younger lads a go-it can't be any worse as we ain't scoring at present.
Martin wins his fair share of flick on's but has absolutely no idea where Weimann is at any given time and often the same can be said of Wells, they should always be on the shoulder of the last defender but rarely if ever are. I think the youngster who is the closest to being ready at this level is probably Tommy Conway, sadly he isn't fully fit. We also miss Semenyo in and around the opponents box.
At least Wells has done it elsewhere so we know he has the ability if we can only tap into it, the other two we’ll the less said the better, both have flattered to deceive.
It's a fallacy about his scoring prowess, he has never been a prolific scorer and has never once managed 20 league goals in a season. And he is a player that if he is not scoring contributes very little else to the team most of the time. For me it's like players like Palmer, ODowda and Paterson in the end waiting in vain for any hint of consistency. IMHO of course.
I would drop Weinman and play Wells centrally with Martin. It’s a hard game this Saturday where no one is expecting a win. Whilst Weinman is resting show him how to run with his head up. And never play O’Dowda again.
And when the opposition have a corner, play at least one player out the box. It was so rubbish their keeper played as a sweeper planting it back again every time it came out.
Was talking about the bus going to WBA ... ONLY TAKING THE TEAM and subs!! not on it get a taxi or try harder!
What, I said you argued that he rarely missed the target?? Edit just searched, and it wasn’t Onefor it was Ashtonred.
Which is untrue. I said last season when somebody on here (not Onefer I believe) claimed he missed loads of chances, I challenged him to remind us all of those missed chances, which he could not and I further said he wasn't missing chances but that none were being created for him. This season he has had chances created for him but has not taken most of those chances. That is totally different to your version.
I read all these counter discussions about which player is actually putting in effort and those who are not and one thing that I get from them is that we have players more than capable of performing at this level but there is for some reason a serious lack of putting the blocks in the right order. There always seems to be lack of something in our DNA that makes us bring in new players who fit the bill on paper and yet either read the wrong page or come to City on the belief that they are going to a resort spa. How nice it might be if finally we got all our ducks, including the back ups, in a row and actually fielded a team that would shake up the league and make Ashton Gate a fortress rather than a good place to pick up points. The dire capitulation on Tuesday was as close to the final straw for me as it gets but I have paid to watch the same boring and predictable stuff for the remainder of the season but sadly I don't see the same issues that have dogged us for years going away any time soon. Forgetting the difficult fixtures that face us for the rest of this year it makes sense to me that the most critical days are going to be in the January transfer window and beyond. Nigel Pearson must be close to wondering why the hell he came to us and unless he is able to come up with, and finance, players that really want to prove their worth and salvage the season in a positive manner then I have fears as to what might happen.
I just think he was shoved out wide to accommodate Fammy and the daft decisions to not have wingers apart from O’Dowda and never got a run centrally. I would like to see him have a run centrally before we write him off. His body languishing style makes people think he’s not interested in being here, but I think that’s just his persona. There are a few more I would move on before him in my honest opinion.
And I would agree that you might be right, who knows?. All I would add is I strongly suspect that he has played more games centrally than out wide and his goal return is still poor. Our position is pretty much, either we play an academy striker, wait until January (which traditionally we don't get right) or we stick with what we have got and hope that it is enough. To be fair the long term injuries to Williams and Semenyo especially could not have come at a worse time for us (not that there is a good time), Williams was beginning to look like the missing link in midfield and Semenyo can provide that creative spark around the opponents box. Hopefully Massengo is fully fit that would be a bonus at the moment.
