I always said I just wanted hope Ashley gone. We've got that now and I'm going to enjoy it. TOON TOON We're ready for battle
Can someone explain the 'fair market' value of sponsorship? Surely the likes of Aramco would have the highest ceiling of value. Armaco and Saudi Airlines arent just made up mickey mouse shell companies designed to inflate sponsorship money
I have a funny feeling this pathetic reaction from the clubs is going to have the adverse effect - and then some. The thing about the Saudi's is, culturally, they will not be bullied. Then you look at what's going on - is it right, is it lawful? No, it isn't. You have City with Etihad on their shirts, Fosun sponsoring Wolves in all kinds of ways, Leicester playing at the King Power stadium and **** knows how many behind-the-scenes deals at the likes of Chelsea, Villa and Leeds. What they've done is mind-blowingly petty, pathetic and wrong. This will be destroyed in court - or, worse, set a precedent which would have MASSIVE impact on their earnings. Saudi Telecom will be looking at their Man U contract as we speak. Anybody with sponsors linked to Saudi, UAE should be ****ting a brick right now. Then there's the separation argument, where Aramco can say it's not linked to the State and by the time anyone picked through the bones of that statement it would be 2032. Then there's the fact there are dozens of multi-billion dollar companies in Saudi no-one has heard of. Then there's the strings that can be pulled by PIF and their investments. The point is they're going to get nowhere trying to create their own laws. And by taking this kind of stance, they may just be poking the bear a little too much. If this is a genuine attempt by Saudi to create a superclub, I get the feeling the panic from the PL will only serve to make that happen faster. Let's not forget that we don't even need sponsorship - we could take £200m+ in donations or whatever and be well within FFP. Which itself won't exist in a year.
I'm still liking the idea of a newly formed Riyadh Rangers buying all our ****e for £150m a pop. Not a damn thing they can do about it.
Exactly, if they wanted to play silly buggers about it, they easily could. To a degree, I sympathise with the likes of Brighton. But here's the example - someone put a figure of £5m a year on our shirt sponsorship during this meeting. A shirt sponsorship that fun88 paid £6.5m a season for in 2017. Villa get £6m. Leicester get £12m. For all Leicester's recent success, can they argue they're a bigger club? So why can't Newcastle agree a £15m deal with Saudia or Saudi Telecom? The issue other clubs have got is we've had next-to-no sponsors. It's been SD rinsing the club, paying pennies. We can increase commercial revenue 10x and it's in line. Newcastle could simply ask for the overview of commercial deals at Wolves, Villa, Leeds, Everton and Leicester, compare notes, compare figures from early 2000's when we had ambition and do the maths. I estimate our commercial revenue is about 10% of capacity as it stands. Then there's paying £30m for a training ground and new home for WSL team and U23's - well, that improvement invites sponsors we've never had - how can you argue otherwise? If 2-3000 people are watching the reserves or the women, how does that not attract sponsorship? All this and I'm just a keyboard warrior. They are flexing in the wrong fight. These clubs are now womens' boxing lightweights stepping into the ring with Fury.
I'd imagine they're going to try and invent an entirely new rule that cements the top clubs positions and stops other clubs growing, but they'll fail to get that past
It's all bullshit... FFP and all that ****e was designed to ensure the rich clubs stayed richer and could keep getting richer while the rest were restricted from trying to compete with them. They called it the very opposite of what it is ie FAIR. It's absolute bullshit.. There's nothing fair about football
yep, its all bollocks.....as has been proven by the numerous bans handed down to Man City, Chelsea and PSG etc over the years which have either been overturned or at the very most reduced to fines equivalent to you and I of about ****ing 10p
They've all rinsed it and now a bigger fish comes in and they're sat there saying its not fair to do it anymore. It's absolutely pathetic
https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/so...remier-league-s-project-big-picture-1.4379013 Is this a power grab then? Absolutely. Until this point the Premier League has decided every change on a one club, one vote basis. A majority vote of 14 has been required for action to take place. This would no longer be the case under Project Big Picture, and while briefing documents suggest that the expanded voting power of “long-term shareholders” would only be effective in certain areas, they are crucial ones. Under the plan, the nine could approve a TV deal or veto the new owner of a club. There is also no guarantee that these powers, once approved, could not be extended in future.
As I read it, Charnley read a letter which effectively threatened the other clubs with legal action if they tried to do it. Parish then said "**** your threats" and put it to vote, and 18 voted yes with City abstaining. Bit pathetic to send Charnley, I must say. Cowardly even. Not a good look.
Charnley is staying for the handover process, so I disagree. The fact is those worms are trying to bully nufc and when nufc fought back they didn't like it. They're having a tantrum
Understanding it's Steve ****ing Parish at the heart of it. Apparently Charnley reading out a letter which indicated the club would take legal action just incited him and he rallied other clubs to the cause! Always thought Parish was a berk - this kinda proves it. They stupidly rushed a vote that's at best unlawful, at worst illegal. Very foolish behaviour.
They're up to something... The month means whatever they're planning is unknown. I dread to think how far they're going to go to try and stop nufc. Lot's of horrible people
Are we now officially the worst team to support in the entire world? I suspect we are. We're either human rights abusers, plastic fans, being vilified for the owner, hated because we want Bruce out or ungrateful for all Ashley has done for us. If this carries on I'm giving up. It's getting to the point where it's not worth it.
Fear & pride make people do foolish things. Consequences will come in the form of a legal battle. Even if there is a legal appeal you'd have thought that the changes would have to be repealed until the appeal was heard. That gives time to get big sponsors in and then there is little that can be done.
No because nobody liked us in the 1st place The only difference is we're going to be beating them and ruining their weekends in a few years and not the other way around. Don't let their complaints cloud your judgement. We all know their real concern.
