So what, when an analyst leaves we just, stop analysing the opposition because we need to wait for the new owners to sort it?
The advert for the new analyst position reads as if it's for a brand new position recently created at the club, not a replacement for an analyst who's left. I assume the 'analysing' duties were previously done by Grant and his staff, but the club's looking for a dedicated position for it. We're talking about a guy who took £500,000 from the EFL and preferred not to pay it back, at the detriment of the club's recruitment. I highly doubt Ehab chucks money at hiring extra staff at the club unless he feels it's absolutely necessary and even then, he'll do it on the cheap. The man personifies the 'cut corner' attitude of the tight-fisted businessman stereotype.
Think we've got a little bit off track. I don't disagree with any of that about Ehab, just not convinced that the club has to stop doing anything just because a takeover is ongoing.
What skills would you need to have to be this analyst? Would I need to simply say 'look Grant, we need to stop with this wrestling the opposition to the ground when defending corners and maybe have a look and see where the ball is? Giz a job, I can do that.
Me neither, but the way that analyst position is described in the HDM makes it seem like it's a newly-created position they're hiring for, rather than a replacement for an analyst who's recently left.
This is not day to day running of the business, IF they are going in the near future why would they trouble themselfs to even think about getting someone in to assist the manager? Not the actions of an owner who is selling up in my opinion.
That would be day one I imagine. But seriously, I imagine it's similar to a scouting position at a club, but instead of individual players, the analyst watches the teams as a whole and how they play. I imagine it involves a lot of travelling up and down the country, watching the team City play next, taking notes and reporting them to the coaching staff. For example, the analyst would've been watching Peterborough's game against Middlesbrough whilst City were playing Huddersfield, and would've been watching Luton play Derby yesterday in anticipation for when we play Luton on Saturday. Wouldn't want to be a City fan with that job. Poor **** will watch every team in the league except us
Maybe I could work from home, or whilst I'm sat on the toilet at work. Come on Ehab, I'll do that for half what you're offering!
We do have analysts already for what it's worth, only at the weekend McCann quoted one of them telling him about the 30 crosses.
I don't doubt that we have analysts already watching our games, but this analyst role is advertised as Senior Analyst (Opposition), so maybe we don't or didn't already have a dedicated analyst who is watching every one of our opponents a week in advance of our forthcoming games. I'm sure most of the big teams have several analysts for watching the opposition, but I imagine for a lot of EFL teams it's just too expensive. On top of the salary, the club will (presumably) be paying their travel, accommodation and ticket prices for games all across England twice a week. The salary offered by City for this role is quite low, but hypothetically, say if someone was already in the job last week, City would have to pay for them to go to Middlesbrough and back to watch Peterborough play, pay for their accommodation there and buy them a ticket. Then on Tuesday, they'd have to do the same but send them to Derby to watch Luton play. It would add up. For what it's worth, I could've told Grant about the 30 crosses that did **** all just from watching iPlayer.
The role is to add to the current team not to replace anyone and the wage is about the going rate for that role at our level. It's basically a data management role and a very boring one ( in my opinion ) but some I'm guessing would love it
I thought as much. I am surprised that's the going rate for an analyst in the Championship. It's not a lot for a job where undergrad is required and postgrad desirable with 4 years relevant experience in a 1st team at a football club.
The bigger clubs will pay more or clubs do/will pay more to bring certain people in the manager may want etc ( may have worked with in the past ) but mid to late 20s is what clubs like us and around us would most probably pay... It's possibly aimed more at someone who's worked under a senior analyst before and wants to take a step up the ladder.
I agree it doesn't sound a lot but they haven't said a first degree is a requirement let alone a second.
Hang on, you lot are going a bit off track here. The real question is that surely given our club philosophy on playing style is an unbeatable 433 which Terry and his ****wit have adopted religiously, why do we need any opposition analysts to see how our opponents are playing? We're unbeatable in a 433 of course so I don't see the point!
A lot on here are deriding the decision to play three at the back on Saturday, just because we were forced to play it the previous game. While I get frustrated at his lack of flexibility, this was not one of those occasions. For a start Jones wasn't fit, which meant we would have been down to our last centre back. So we're asking a very inexperienced player to come into the middle of a back three having spent half an hour in that position in his whole career. Surrounded by similar inexperienced players and against one of the form teams. Which leaves no other centre back on the bench in case of injury. We got away with it vs M'boro, but that was through necessity. (abstract taken from Askew's application for Football Analysist)
He needs to start by analysing why we employ such a stupid wrestling system at corners and free kicks and not attack the ball itself.
Agree, are we expecting McCann to study the information given to him by the opposition analyst & then change his formation to 3-5-2, 4-4-2,4-2-3-1 depending on the strengths/weakness identified ?. Will he bollocks, he'll stick to 4-3-3 & wonder why we lost & failed to score a goal. Instead of wasting money on an opposition analyst, sack his useless assistant & spend the money getting someone with Championship experience to work with McCann to try & improve his managerial skills
