Mercedes have even put out shots of Lewis's tyres. Through to the carcass. Now just cos icons survives marginally doesn't mean lewis had the same race and same wear so can we compare the two? Ocon had several.issues while hamilton was trying to charge through and such. Clearly Marc feel they ensured he finished and lewis thinks he would have held off the world on no tyres left for last 10 laps. Where the right and wrong is is opinion. I think everyone can agree though red bull are laughing about them arguing, esp if hamilton ignores info in the next races and comes a cropper. Theres a difference between taking all the info in and making a call and ignoring the info and making a call on your own.
It's only celebrated when its shown to be right by the likes of Croft who couldnt even get Lewis's position right at the end. Called it 6th and I was wtffff did he spin off on the last corner? How button put up with that man for 3 hours yesterday I dont know. Whinging on the radio when you know the world can hear is always bitchy and childish. Verstappen radio crybaby antics probably fed into the penalty he got in Italy. He sounded like he would ram someone he was out of control etc etc. Finger off the send button imo.
Crofty draws opinion for his gaffs. Murray, who many loved, made many a gaff and in fact they became a trademark of Murray. I do think the task of commentary is underestimated. No one comments on what he does right, only what he does wrong. He, and whoever he is partnered with on the day, has to keep the audience engaged throughout. An audience of multiple levels of intelligence and knowledge. He has to cover the dull moments when rain stops play through to the most exciting and throughout keep the audience engaged. The viewing figures probably are a measure of his success although that is probably skewed by there are few, if any, alternatives. Spotting his gaffs are probably part of the entertainment for some, just as Horner and Co playing the baddies is also part of the entertainment. Personally, I don't hang on his every word, I enjoy the racing and only acknowledge his commentary when it is relevant to my thinking.
imo its cos he never gets anything right seriously he completely missed a pass that was blindingly obvious yesterday and only comments about 2 corners after it was shown and most of the time starts roaring and shouting when a driver has absolutely no chance of passing but just gets closer under braking. It its absolutely pants. IMO he should let the "expert" get on with being an expert and focus on getting the what's happening right now commentary right. Button was excellent i thought, good insights but then croft would rabbit it back like button never said it for about 5 laps even if it was no longer actually the case. it'd help if he kept an actually eye on what the feed actually is and comment on it properly. imo it takes from the race as I can see things much quicker than he does and by the time he opens his mouth he's already saying something thick. the veiwing figures are actually locked BTW. what option do i have to watch it live? if a race was live on C4 for example i'd be straight on there to avoid the clown. finally what you've said feeds into the thing, its the lewis show as far as he is concerned and he rarely touches on the British drivers and British teams unless they are put squarely in front of him. It should be the lewis show in so far as its british TV and he is leading the race etc and it should be more before the race as you then have a duty to commentate on the race. By all means have faces and heels but thats wrestling. last time i checked christian horners team were located in milton keynes and was stewart racing before so are not heels for me. Murrey used to gush over schumacher at times which was annoying but he also gushed over brundle when he joined him in the box. he was there fore 1000 years so you accept foibles but croft would be more professional. get the position right at least. 6th FFS. it wasn't like the guys following were even bloody close!
All valid points. I guess I don't tune into his commentary but observe for myself, probably much as I do in all aspects of life. I will try and listen to him next time, although I may struggle because that will be alien to my approach.
Mercedes aren't regularly the strategic geniuses on the grid, and have been caught out on a number of occasions, so I can understand questioning their calls. They were caught out again yesterday by not pitting earlier when everyone else did.
I see Horner is now crowing about Mercedes PU “gains”. Basically, what he means is, that it sucks having your flexing rear wing banned.
I think Red Bull bet huge on this year to win Drivers and Constructors championship as they had an idea that Merc would shift development very early on. If it's one thing Red Bull have been good at it's development. It's so close at moment but I do think Max will, unfortunately, win. I would like Lewis to get his 8th just for the record books.
I think with 6 races to go, it is wide open. US and Mexico 'in theory' will be one each. Brazil likely favours RBR but no certainty. Assume it does and Max has a (assume) 15 point lead after Brazil. It really will come down to the last three races and I think Bottas has a role to play in this, as does Sergio. Quite possibly their roles are the deciding element.
I have absolutely no idea which way this is going now... We've had some strange races lately which all seem to have conspired to keep this ridiculously close. Could go either way... And one DNF from here on out could really end it for one of them.
Great isn't it. We will have to enjoy it while we can as next year will probably see 1 team way out in front. It's typical of F1 just as we get closely matched teams they change the regs.
