What is it with these Brexitards and their obsession with a war that none of them took any part in?
Are we going to stop using guns in wars because of the Battle of Hastings, too?

The laughable thing is the height of the Troubles and Civil Rights struggle etc have happened since then but we're supposed to glorify/commemorate the war and just forget/move on from racism and the crimes of the state committed against certain groups.

There's a fine line between being obsessed with the war and being aware of what happened, and being proud of Britain's role in the spread of fascism. I'm sure you're not suggesting that we should not have fought Germany? And certainly while none of us here fought in the war, we may well have relatives that did, and are rather proud of their contribution. I'm also not sure what you are suggesting about the link between supporting Brexit and all this. There's certainly some currency in what you say about certain individuals, but I take exception about making sweeping statements about everyone thinking the same.

The fact is that if you challenge them in any way, you're more or less guaranteed to have them throwing something about Churchill, the Blitz or the Battle of Britain back at you, because WWII has long been absorbed by the aggressive form of patriotism these people wield like a shield

What's particularly ironic about this is these are the people who (rightly) criticise Hollywood for trying to make it look like the USA of America won WWII single-handed, yet now their arguments are how good ol' Blighty single-handedly won WWII

    You're highlighting my point.
Suggesting that the negatives of Brexit compare in any way with WWII is an insult.
Claiming that food and petrol shortages will be good for the population cos the blitz? Ludicrous.

These arseholes are trying to make some sort of ridiculous comparison between the two.
Leaving the EU is nothing like fighting the Nazis.
A lot of those in favour of the former seem rather enamoured with fascism, for a start.

I said as much when Trump got elected and when Covid laws came in last year. Beyond me how so many people (on the left and right) are quick to compare modern day politics to an era that mercilessly killed millions.

It's a ploy. They don't want to address the actual issues, so they create an imaginary enemy.
Boris may not have a clue how to fix any of the problems, but he's beating the Boche.

Really? How many? What proportion? Funnily enough Brexit wouldn't have happened if an awful lot of traditional Labour voters hadn't voted for it. And I don't think many of them would describe themselves as fascists. Unless you are suggesting that Brexiteer = Fascist? Unfortunately a large number of former Labour voters feel abandoned by the party and the way forward isn't to put them down.

Virtually nobody in England describes themselves as a fascist, now Di Canio's gone.

Some Brexit voters had sensible and rational reasons for wanting to leave the EU. A lot of them didn't.
The Leave campaign knew that they'd be able to push through their version and screw everyone else.
The bloke that ran it has said as much.

As for Labour voters feeling abandoned by the party and voting Tory, I disagree.
Anyone that thought that Boris Johnson and this Tory government were a better option was delusional.
I'm guessing that wasn't a very large number of people.

Corbyn was massively unpopular and his stance on Brexit was virtually non-existent.
Brexit, culture wars and propaganda won the last election for the Conservatives.
Can I see that changing in the near future? Nope.

I think that the current Tories are exceptionally proud of their role in that particular endeavour! <laugh>
