Isn't the 's' correct? I thought it was the 'z' usage that was an Americanisation.

Get shards of broken glass inserted up your arsehole or get a biro shoved down your urethra? YOU DECIDE.

The 'z' is in the Oxford Dictionary as acceptable British usage and is truer to the Latin -iz- root of the suffix than the French -is- ****e. <partytime>

As far as I know they are both acceptable, but the 'z' usage is an Americani(s/z)ation

I'm pointing out that it's as British a language feature as it is American. It's still used in 40% of British texts according to the national corpus and appears in both the Cambridge and Oxford dictionaries as acceptable usage.

You can still understand it can't you?!
