my dad was a mag but my grandad used to go to whoever was playing at home and used to take my dad along till he was of a age where he went on his own hence the mags. What i found funny was the fact my grandad would go to roker park when the mackems were at home during a derby (always followed who was at home) despite saying he was a mag and living in gateshead..guess that's the way it was then, agree about it changing in the 70's and esp.the 80's

edit: this could be why there was massive attendances in those days

I wouldn't waste any high brow cutting remarks on you, it would be like trying to have a political discussion with a chimp.

It's nice to know that Gerry Cottles Circus will never be short of a clown whilst you are around

Respect for having the balls to admit it. I didn't think anyone would have even if they thought it.

Syd, you're an older fella. Did you used to support football when this whole shared support thing was going on with people attending Sunderland and Newcastle games?

I remember my Grandad would happily listen to Newcastle, Sunderland and 'Boro on the 'wireless'.

Too many people these days think that football is about kicking people's teeth in, throwing stuff at opposition players and just generally being an antisocial ****wit at a football match.

I'd either go and watch Blyth or Berwick

When I am at the game, less & less these days due to poor health, I always enjoy some craic with the away fans.

Most lads are ok, just like us. Of course, I can't do that on derby day.

I think most Sunderland pubs are welcoming to away fans but some towns are not like that.

I'm sure most away game regulars for both sides will know of the Navigation pub next to the Riverside in Middlesbrough and the big "NO AWAY SUPPORTERS" sign hanging above the door!

For some reason I support crap teams so I'd start going back to Croft Park to watch Blyth. From one relegation scrap to another!

Well I don't get away now unless we are playing somewhere where I have family but I always read the awaydays guide in the Echo.

There are a lot of places that arnt very welcoming.
