In a similar vein to MagOldMan’s thread of “supporting when…” which was the first Toon away game you ever went to?

For me it was the FA Cup semi final against Burnley in 1974. I remember buying a flag outside the ground and 5 yards on having the stick taken off me by a policeman next to a lamppost bin full of sticks. I was in the Peniston Road End which had over a million Newcastle fans in it, at least if felt and sounded that way. And watched Supermac carry us on his back along with Waldron, literally, to Wembley.

one of the greatest atmospheres I can remember at any match.

Scarborough back in the late 80’s. Pre season.

I love the away days. The cans. The 6 am drinking.

I was in the “Burnley” side. Great day, but nowhere near as good as the 5th round. WBA away, best day of my life!

I think about one third of the Burnley tickets seemed to have been bought by Newcastle fans that day.

Can’t remember the year probably early to mid 2000’s but we played Blackburn away on Boxing Day. I was only a kid but my dad managed to get some tickets (in the Blackburn end but at that age I was just excited to see my team live for the first time). I’m sure we drew 2-2 and Robert possibly scored if I remember correctly. Very cold day!

It’s my dad’s fault I’m a Toon fan. Asked him who he supported in about 1995 and the bugger didn’t think of a lie fast enough. Cue years of stick from all the Man U plastics at the time and then the sudden burst of Chelsea fans that emerged for some reason in 2003.

Kept nagging him to take me to a game but he never got round to it.

Eventually worked out I could buy tickets myself. September 2009 sat with the home fans as we lost 2-0 in the League Cup at Peterborough with Nile Ranger up front. In the rain.

Was a fairly accurate introduction to what was in store for the next decade or so.

First away game sat with the Toon Army was February 2015, with my Dad this time, when we lost 5-0 to Man City. We were 1-0 down before we even got in the ground.

Not sure of the year (some time in the late 80s), but Barnsley away at Oakwell in he old second division. From memory I think we drew 1-1. It was a very forgettable game!!

Other than Sunderland mine was 1976 at the old Bolton ground in the FA Cup. Huge crowd. Drew the game. Outstanding goal from Supermac

My first few Toon games were all at SJP, I didn't go to any away games for a few years.

First away game I think was against Peterborough in Sept 1992, Kevin Sheedy got the only goal of the game, set up by Rob Lee, who was having his debut for us then.

Same for me, starting school in the 80s, everyone else supported Liverpool, and I told my dad I wanted to support them, and dad basically said tough **** you're supporting Newcastle.
