The good thing about books Asks is that there's no clock to watch or fall behind.

 

Needs a lot of referring to the Cast of Characters at the beginning and rereading certain sections to understand it, but well worth it.

 

Will probably read Chris Frantz's at some point, a reformed Talking Heads playing on a summer night in Zebedee's Yard would be my dream gig. I read Mayflies by Andrew O Hagan on holiday as it had a 80's music aspect but it dissapointed me.
Bob Mortimer's And Away is probably next to pick up.

 

If you like football books then highly recommended is Neil Warnock - The Gaffer. Best football book I've read in a long time and I don't even like the bloke. Will be heckling the bugger on Saturday.

 

Just started reading Original Intent by David Barton (signed by the author) about the fundamental principles of the US constitution. I'll bet I'm the only contributor to this forum who will ever read this book.

Just been browsing 'The Decade' by Richard Gardham again. If anyone on here hasn't read it yet, then do yourself a favour and get it.

There are so many memories in there, it nearly brought me to tears.

 

Fantastic book, one of my better buys.

Away from books, I am involved in a project called 'public dialogue by WWF', considering climate change, food production and land use in Hull and East Yorkshire. I was lucky enough to be chosen for 15 hours of work .
Nothing changes, 5 supermarkets demand that farmers sell their products at a certain price. .Gov't props up farmers with subsidies. They may as well just hand the money straight to supermarkets and their shareholders.
UK agriculture produced £3.2b last year. Received £2.7b subsidies!

I had a visit there this year, very educational and illuminating. Without being too evangelical they describe some of the differences, both agricultural and commercial, between smaller scale and industrial scale farming. It soon becomes clear to most that small scale makes a lot of sense for lots of reasons.

After you've finished The R.T.P. (a great book) you should try 'Letters To My Grand Children' it's a book written by the late Tony Benn, to his g'children (surprise, surprise) - a lot may scoff, but I'm guessing they'll scoff without ever having read it, it's a brilliant book - I'd say more but it would break 606 rules.

 

Paul Weller said Benn was the only politician he knew that would hold his hands up and say "Sorry I was wrong about that".

 

Have just completed reading Spycatcher by Peter Wright(Assistant Director of MI5) which for years was banned from publication by the UK and Aus. governments. Intriguing tale of the operations and interactions of predominantly MI5, MI6 and US spy agencies.

Of particular interest to me as one of my fiancees in the 50's was the son of the deputy head of MI5.
