First World problems. We are all guilty of it to some extent. This takeover is an extreme version of it. Way of the world.

O look here is a man with a funny moustache that wants to kill loads of Jews, or is it a man who wears a tea towel on his head who wants to bomb children's hospitals in Yemen?

By in large, they hate us. Whilst financially they are taking over us. They already have large stakes in things like Disney & Facebook. Newcastle to them is just one of many drops in the ocean. We are all guilty of using their 'products' without even realising it. Its just when they dip their toe into sport when it leaves a nasty taste in the mouth. Just feels wrong doesn't it?

Have the ffp rules suddenly changed? The press, the fans, the ex players, the bookies all going on like Newcastle are able to do a Man City and buy success. I thought rules were put in place to stop that? Chelsea even got a transfer ban recently for breaking those rules I believe? So how come everyone is going on like they can go and simply spend hundreds of millions with no recompense.?

    unless I’ve missed something

So what are the profitability and sustainability rules?

Commonly but incorrectly referred to as FFP (financial fair play) they are the rules contained in Section E of the Premier League Handbook, rules E.45 to E.53.

Essentially they limit the permitted losses of a football club to £105 million over a three year period. This is not the aggregate of the net losses shown in the accounts. Several costs are permitted to be deducted from the statutory accounts:

    • Depreciation and/or impairment of tangible fixed assets & amortisation of goodwill (not players’ registrations)
    • Women’s football
    • Youth development
    • Community development
    • Covid costs for 2019/20 and 2020/21 – lost revenues and exceptional costs directly attributable to the pandemic
The rules are usually viewed over three years but because of the impact of Covid-19, the current regulations look at the aggregate of the average calculated figure for this season 2020/21 (projected) and last season 2019/20 plus the preceding two years 2018/19 and 2017/18.

You are correct in saying that the Saudis have nothing but contempt for us on the West.

But it's worth saying that there is a huge difference in PIF's general business, which is one of investing to earn money, spreading their wealth over assets to protect themselves and this buyout. They will win some and lose some in their main business, and other countries do this. Fair enough to me.

But investing in an English football team , in a Northern provincial city with a dodgy ground, poor external facilities and a poor team, is not , clearly about making money.

It's just applying make up to the face of a Hammer Horror villain. How exquisitely apposite it is, that this sportswash appears to be fronted by someone who herself, looks like she is from the central casting of those old midnight frighteners!

No they haven’t changed, in fact they’re about to get even stricter if sources close to UEFA are to be believed. <laugh>

The PL will protect them because they're adding value to their brand. They looked the other way with Man City.

But they didn’t with city. When city were taken over those rules were completely different to the ones above. These new ffp (psr is apparently the correct name) rules weren’t in place when they bought city.

I'm going to have to try not hate them as much and think of the good people I know who support them, might make it easier for me to accept :emoticon-0138-think

You need the hope that you can beat each other sometimes to make it fun, but this ends that. They've basically got a cheat code now to win everything...which is what they always wanted. Not just a team that tries.

I highly doubt it. What have PSG won in all the years that Qatar have owned them? That's assuming the Saudi's will actually pour money into the club by way of transfer funds....

PSG have won league titles. That would make me happy. The Saudis will pour money in, this is a political exercise by the state, they will do anything but compete and win. Sport washing won't work just making up the numbers

PSG were already winning titles in the one horse race that is Ligue One
It's not a foregone conclusion that Newcastle will suddenly be a top 4 team. Just having money isn't going to attract the top level players, if they do it right, over the next 5-10 years then they have a chance but any fan expecting Mbappe and Haaland to sign in January is going to be sorely disappointed

Been following this like everybody else, and a few points.

I was massively pissed off (jealous, yeh) when it first broke last summer and now its been confirmed.

The money is obviously just stupid and makes the 'Toon' believe owt is possible. FPP is a big constraint with this, they cant 'do a City' now. Realistically, on the pitch they are going to be competing with the likes of Villa Everton, Arsenal, West Ham, Leicester, Spurs, over the next few years. They will sign very good PL players, but the elite players want to play in the CL and win trophies. It'll take them years to be able to do that.

Yes, they will invest in smart recruitment, academy and infra but all well-run clubs do that now. We certainly do, finally.

The other thing also is that the elite of City, United, Liverpool and Chelsea aren't suddenly gonna stop challenging. The NE does suffer from being able to attract due to the location, and those clubs demand success as much as anybody, no matter how much money is on the table.

We need to focus on ourselves, and thankfully we have a really good ownership, access to billions ourselves, a clear structure and plan, and a really good set of young players who will only get better as we go up the leagues. If this was a year ago under CM/SD we'd all be suicidal. But it isn't.

**** the Mags. Haway me Bonny Lads. and ignore the media ****fest going on.

The media interest will die down, quite a lot, until Newcastle change significantly.
(Even then the human rights issue will dog them.*)

Many clubs have wealthy owners and, like Sheff Utd, don't seem to make progress.

Time will tell but, whatever happens, it'll be a long time ...

... Chelsea, Liverpool, City, etc aren't going to roll over and let 'The Toon' take over.
