I wouldn't worry, mate. They'll be elevated to the top half of the premier league but they'll not be competing with the likes of Man City for players so it's highly unlikely they'll be challenging for league titles or anything like that.
It'll take years and there's bound to be ups and downs. If they do ever get in the top 4 they'll have the ability to turn the screw, but that's not really important to me. Just take it as it comes It'll just be nice to have go and have some hope.
Yeah, I get that. I admitted on the Sunderland board if we still had that joker owning us this would have been hard to bear for any Sunderland fan if we are honest. I'm more than happy with our owner and the way our club is going, though. I genuinely think in 5 or 6 years time, assuming this deal does go through for you, we'll both be good premier league clubs and that can only be good for the region. You have a long way to go putting a good academy in place and things like that take at least a decade to bear fruit. As long as you are patient and realise it doesn't happen overnight.
For plenty of them their expectations will be off the scale, give it a year & some of them will calling for Staveleys head.
I don't know I mean apart from the uneducated fan in their mams house I think most know you can't just bulldoze the way through. Look at Everton for example it's cost hundreds and hundreds of millions so far and it's not easy. It gives us a chance and it gives us what we deserve imo which is hope. Unlike city they're no problems having to ask for fans. It'll be amazing the change in the atmosphere overnight
They'll just do what City and Chelsea have done and throw money at it until it sticks. They can't compete with them for players now, but they can buy the best of the rest. They can also hire a decent manager, who'll attract better players.
I don't think they will. I imagine they'll probably run parallel to the likes of Everton. Big spenders with big wages, but not challenging the elite.
They can’t though, as they’ll reach the point we have, PL rules are that you can’t rack up more than a total of £103m ( from memory) of losses over a 3 year period. We’ve had our collar felt as we’re going to massively fail that, the only reason we’ll possibly get away with it this time, is COVID. But we’ve had to shed £m’s off the wage bill & have spent nothing. Gone are the days when you can keep lobbing cash at it until it sticks, the big 6 ensured that a City can’t happen again. An owner can invest but until they drive the turnover - which is chicken and egg - then it’s limited. Plus the consortium only committed to investing £250m over 5 years anyway.
