Anyone on here an accountant, or can recommend one? Am self employed and been trading 4 years. Been landed with a massive tax bill because my lazy excuse of an accountant didn't explain something to me properly (I didn't specifically ask, but with his expertise he should have warned me at some point in the last 4 years) Am fed up with him and his one word answers and lazy approach. Can anyone recommend a good accountant who is readily available with advice?
Get some good software on you PC, input daily or as often as necessary and it should automatically produce VAT returns and sales invoices etc Teichman and Sharkey 01207 282373, ask for Ken Sharkey (iirc he is a Mag though) should help you get straight.
Whats your trade mate?? Im only asking incase i can trust someone reliable to do any future work for me ha. Hope you get sorted with a new accountant mate.
KittenMittens was, apparently, an accountant. His lass was a better accountant, apparently, according to him. Also, Chris Wetherspoon is a sunderland-ish based accountant. I'm sure they're all great accountants, just don't ask them about sunderland.
I'm assuming you have a limited company or you operate via an umbrella company. There are lots of specialised accounting companies that operate in the IT contractor market. https://www.contractoruk.com/directory/contractor_accountants.html My accountants use Freeagent software, which I would highly recommend.
I don't understand this discussion 'TopCat' asked for an accountant, in the very next post 'King Kareoke' (a fellow Sunderland fan) said that he is one and can probably help (a lot of us like to help each other when we can), and finding an accountant is still being discussed. Have I missed something
There are plenty of good accountants out there and some shoddy ones - I am never offended if someone recommends their accountant as they will know from their own experience. There may be some out there who don't like our approach - it is fine. Just get the lad sorted. The world of IT and particularly IR35 have become a dark art. Please can I ask one thing don't believe all the hype around these programmes advertising their software gets everything right at a press of a button. Sadly it doesn't and the output is only as good as the input. Off my high horse but it boils my p***
Spot on mate... I only worked for large companies, so did not do the accounts for self employed or sole traders. However I did have the 'privilege' of being the finance person for several charities. Depending on the size, they either wrote up a cash book, or used some software, so all I had to do is get the totals to make the various returns or present accounts to potential doners. It was always worth some time helping them to set up and DIY as it saved me heaps of time. VAT is and continues to be a pain... then what is and is not an allowable expense, who is an employee and who isn't. God I am so pleased I have left it all behind.
My wife had awful accountants. We since found out that the people who recommended them to her were making a claim against them for failing to do their job. They could have let us know.
