Apologies if this has been posted before but couldn't see it. I was just listening to this weeks Monday Night Club on 5live and we were getting a lot of good praise, in particular our captain. Journo Ian McGarry said that he has been the best defender in the league this season and Pleat (much as I hate him) was singing his praises too. While this is nice to hear, I hope this sort of behaviour doesn't lead to other clubs coming in for him! The link to the podcast is below, they start chatting about us about 29 mins in, good listen <ok>

  2. I'd say you couldn't really pick who's been best between Colo and Saylor really, they've both been fantastic.

While they've both made good starts it has to be Colo. Not only has he defended well but he's a different class with the ball as well.

I would, Colo has been better than Saylor, who could have cost us 2 penalties by now.

Gotta go with Colo, as others have said, his distribution has been top notch and his consistency is higher than Taylor's who is still making silly mistakes. Both have been immense though!

How does he not get in the Argentina squad?? Presumably the coach watches us if he is picking Jonas...

  8. yeah but how many last second blocks and goal line clearances has Saylor made to save us?

    Both have been equally fantastic.

Dont agree, Williamson looked class alongside Colo as well because that's what he does for his defensive partner. Not saying Taylor hasnt done fantastically, but Colo's a cut above.

At least one of them was Taylor's fault in the first place.

It seems stupid argung this but Colo has definately been better. While Taylor is probably in his best form in a Newcastle top.

  11. Williamson didn't look fantastic at all mate, he looked weak as a pint of piss for a 6ft 3 inch player. Didn't win nearly enough in the air for someone of his height, and allowed players to get the better of him too easily. He also took the definition of "no nonsense" to far and cleared the ball out of play when simple passes were available to him, so he gave the opposition chance to regain possession.

It's true Coloccini is a fantastic player and is a great player to work with, but Colo has benefited from Saylor's strength and aerial ability, something with Colo doesn't possess on the same level as Saylor. It's not just Saylor that's been reaping the benefits from his partner, it's worked both ways.

Saylor has made plenty of blocks and clearances and earned us points from them. Yes it was Saylor that gave away the pen vs Spurs, but it was Cabaye's fault really for losing the ball in that position and putting the pressure on our CB's.

Colo is the better player overall, but Saylor has made more of the point saving actions so far. I'm not saying Colo couldn't have done it, I'm just saying Saylor has been our savior more than just a few times already this season.

Colo has been the most consistent this season, he's not put a foot wrong. he is definitely up there in terms of best CB this season. Saylor has been very good, but he's given away a penalty already and it could have easily been 2, both silly challenges that weren't needed. Overall he's been good, but Colo edges it.

Anyone see Colo's foot work during the Spurs game?

    Sexy.

  16. Ok if you think that then fine. I'm not denying Colo is the all round better player, just saying i think neither have been better than the other.

Cos Taylor's one of your players who can do no wrong. We've seen them before, it used to be Barton, I think Routledge had a quick go as well. Taylor's given two penalties away already, he needs to lose the rash, dive-in mentality before he can be considered as good as Colo.

as long as colo doesn't start misjudging long balls again. In the first season and the championship he used to underjump balls and it cost us every second game. They've both been solid, they've been poor in the past, so lets just be happy they've improved.

I'm not denying he's made mistakes, but his overall play has been fantastic mate and Colo hasn't been superior to him overall.

Saylor has been better in certain games, Colo has been better in certain games.

Wolves there was no excuse, it was just plain silly, but Spurs, even though he could have done better, Cabaye deserves a lot of the blame for losing the ball and putting Saylor under that sort of pressure.

I don't fancy Colo that much 1v1 vs Adebayor. There's no guarantee Colo would have done much better.
