Why is he apologising to the media for our performance?

They'll all be at it now. Hacking the pitch up so we can't play football on it.

That was weird to watch. Portsmouth were as bad/ struggled as much as us but, what I saw was this:

    • Mentioned earlier that Flanners and B Wright can't play well together - both too slow and too similar
    • Rossco couldn't strike a partnership last year with Wyke. He and O'Brien looked terrible together today
    • We needed a Plan B - hoofball served them well. Their midfield was largely bypassed and got clear 5 times and scored four
    • Our formation was never going to succeed on that pitch. LJ ought to really have changed it to bypass midfield and the flanks - an easy hindsight comment I know; but that's what he gets paid for. He should almost have considered 4-2-4; or 5-0-5.
The only other things I saw were

    • Ref should have called it off
    • Newcastle are utter s****
    We will win this league.

I agree with you re the formation. Straight up the middle and bypass the soggy areas. Rossco and AOB needed to be battering rams today whilst having more nimble poachers feeding off them. That would have created more chances from open play and more final third free kicks and set-pieces to lump a ball into their box. We didn't need pace today. We needed strength, determination and nimbleness

Only thing I can say about the game today is well done our magnificent fans, safe driving home tonight. We will have our revenge against them when we get them up here when the pitch will be playable. Getting drunk tonight and I'm not gonna even attempt to read over the road lol.

I have to say when I heard what the weather conditions were going to be I was not surprised at a poor performance. We are a passing side not hoofers.
But four against .. a shock.

Bad day at the office. Not the right team selection in my opinion but the manager selects what he feels is the team to get the job done. Couldn’t play football on that pitch and route one should have been the way forward. Again only my opinion. We move on and how we react to this set back will show us if this was just a blip or a more worrying problem. Keep the faith ladies and gents every team no matter how good they are have off days. :emoticon-0148-yes:

A very honest summing up of a poor performance.
