For me the Wigan game on Saturday is a must win game! Our next six games are the following...

    Wigan (H)
    Stoke (A)
    Everton (H)
    Man City (A)
    Man Utd (A)
    Chelsea (H)

Although I am always optimistic there is a good chance we will fail to beat Stoke, Man City, Man Utd & Chelsea. Although we could realistically get a point at Stoke and we can beat anyone at home on our day. Anything we get from the Manchester's will be a huge bonus, so in my opinion we need to win against Wigan and Everton to ensure that we don't let this great start finish. Out of these six games I would be very happy with 8 points (3 points against Wigan and Everton and draws against Stoke and Chelsea).

I would play the following team on Saturday...

    Krul
    Santon Saylor Coloccini Raylor
    Tiote Cabaye
    Jonas HBA Marveaux
    Ba

I am going to plump for a 3-0 win, but I will not take this game for granted as it would be typical Newcastle to lose this game after such a good start.

    What do you think?

If we beat Wigan 5-0 and QPR beat Chelsea 2-0; we go 3rd <whistle>

The next 3 games are certainly winnable but the 3 after? It's stacked against us but I'd be happy with at least retaining a positive GD.

completely agree here. Really important that we take all 3 points.
We will rue missing out in a few weeks time because really its unlikely we'll get anymore than a point against city, utd then chelsea.

    Wigan:
Got to agree with you on this one. If we were lower down the table this game would be a must win (possibly relegation 6 pointer) so there is no reason that should change! 3:0 Saturday or I'll be bitterly disappointed!

    Stoke:
Tough! We will need to be at the top of our game in both boxes and concentration cannot drop for a second. Stoke are impossible to subdue because it takes them a second to move the ball from front to back and that is the way they train and are set up. At the same time, teams like Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea all seem able to overcome them, there is no reason why we can't....Get a draw and I'll be over the moon!

    Everton:
Lost their main midfield threat in Arteta but brought in a real gem in Drenthe. Have had a tough fixture list so far and haven't actually done that badly despite their place in the table and their lack of points. This game is winnable, but I'd take a draw if I'm honest.

People said the Spurs game was a watermark game, giving us an idea of how good we actually are...I disagree, I think the Stoke and Everton games are far more indicative as these are the teams who we'll be fighting with for league position come the end of the season!

You forgot Blackburn in the CC.

Next three games are critical for maintaining this early season form; I really hope we don't go to extra time for the third cup tie in a row.

I can't see us slipping up at home to Wigan... surely...
Blackburn should by all rights be a win for us...
and Stoke is a tough game. Can see us conceding a last-minute winner in that one.

Let's hope that the Zog isn't given the freedom of the park to get them off to a flyer.

I really think this could be a cricket score, Wigan are ****e at the back. An early goal and we could win by 5 or 6.

    I'm going 4-0 Cabaye first goal <ok>

If we can pick up 8 points from the next 6 league games we will have done well.

This would put us on 24 points from 14 games and we would have played all the accepted "top" teams except Liverpool.

What would things be like if (and I really mean if) we were still unbeaten after the Chelsea match? Looking at the way the two Mancs are playing at the moment, this is certainly feasible!

aaaah it all makes so much sense now...His poor grasp of the English language coupled together with his off-Gallic pronunciation has led him to believe he's been signing for the London club each time...

Charles: "Wigan Arsethletic? Why zis must be a silly Ingleesh nickname...Wafer thin mint"
Charles: "Arseton Villa? Yes, zis ees zee silly Ingleesh nickname...Wafer thin mint"

Agreed, we really need to get 3 points on board before that awful run. Hopefully our form can run into the Everton and Stoke games but I dont expect any points from Man C/Man U away and a point at home to Chelsea would be very good as well.

Dont forget we have a very favourable run straight after that in December, a great chance to bounce back.

Suppose it depends on what we're hoping to achieve this season, the important thing is whatever the result the team keep their heads up and keep looking for points even in the 'big club' games. 8 from the next 6 I'd be absolutely delighted with, 24 points by the end of November? The mackems haven't managed that in whole seasons...

    What an absolute stupid statement.

Wigan, this weekend, is not in the slightest meaning of the word a MUST win game.

    Shut up...
