Good Morning. It's Wednesday 29th September, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    Phillips ready for contract talks

Football media platform '90 min' claim that both Leeds Utd and Kalvin Phillips are ready to sit down and discuss a new long term contract for the Yorkshire Pirlo. Social media lit up yesterday after various newspapers alleged that the red side of Manchester were making a beeline for the England Midfielder.

Phillips contract currently expires the Summer of 2024. Leeds will be keen to tie him down for at least another couple of years on top of the (almost) three years remaining. If the figures are to be believed, Phillips will be rewarded with a pay rise, putting him in the same bracket as Bamford and Raphinha, who currently earn 70k a week

    U21's win at Oldham

Leeds U21's added to Oldham Athletic's woes last night, recording a credible victory over the bottom side in the Football League. The youngsters made amends having lost their group stage opener at Tranmere earlier this month with a 3-2 win at Boundary Park, climbing up to third in group 'B' of the EFL trophy.

Leeds took the lead in the 42nd minute courtesy of a Summerville spot kick. It was no more than the young Whites deserved, having dominated the half. Keith Curle's men went on a second half rampage, scoring four in the second half, but as two were at the wrong end, Leeds held out for victory. Oldham and Tranmere are both above Leeds on goal difference. Oldham beat Salford in the previous round 1-0. Tranmere travel to Salford next week.

Moore, Bate and McGurk all received considerable praise on social media following their performances. Interestingly, both Charlie Cresswell and Joe Gelhardt were rested yesterday. Do we assume they're going to take an active part on Saturday against Watford?

    Raphinha should be sidelined

Former player, now medical expert Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted that the medical team at Elland Road must take charge and sideline Raphinha, who he believes is carrying an injury. The former Villa ace went on to say that Leeds were over reliant on the young Brazilian.

“I feel that he probably wasn’t right to play the game [against West Ham],” “He went off against Newcastle United and he probably just wants to play. “He needs the physio department to pull him out and maybe Leeds are so reliant on him they need to play with an injury. “Daniel James, Jack Harrison and Rodrigo, you don’t see too many goals coming from them. He’s that important to the team that they’re playing them him in injured. “Raphinha’s one of the best wingers in the league.”

    Morning all,

Phillips is the best player at the club therefore should be the best player at the club, its not brain surgery.

While it's not a definite that it means he is staying it is a big sign to the fans the he wants to be here but also a smart move from the club, if he goes it does mean we'll get the best deal for him. From anyone except the scum.

I hate agreeing with that twat Aghbongaor but a proper rest and recovery time wouldn't hurt Raph. I would imagine if Harrison hadn't come down with covid this would have already happened.
While we are stronger with him I believe we can cope with Harrison & James if he needs a rest.

    Morning all :emoticon-0148-yes:

Charlie Taylor is now at Burnley so think it should read Charlie Cresswell and Gelhardt were rested <laugh> but the facts are that if we want to progress in these U21 cups we have to use the U23s who are all under 21, when we can as last night showed. This was the first time wehave won a game against seasoned EFL players and thats because its the first time we have used predominantly U23 players instead of 15,16&17yo kids. Mark Jackson said he was pleased with the way our plan worked and pleased with the way we went through them and outflanked them. He said we should have finished better (but no Greenwood and Joffy) we maybe need to think about priorities for these kids this season and by what I mean is, do we expect to win this league, i would say not. So do we go for the cups which will show us and Bielsa what they can do against EFL players(the 23s) or concentrate on league. Some of these cup games are immediately after of before league games so cause a problem. I would field a weakened team for the league and out out our best 23s against the EFL teams?

    Afternoon all..

It might be a good idea discussing a new contract with Phillips in a month or two when we’re hopefully out the bottom three and have a few wins under our belt. He’s agent is bound to have release fee clauses built in and the figure of such a fee must surely be heavily in favour of the player when you’re flirting with relegation

    Top performers last night:

    Leo Hjelde - 7
Leo Hjelde took the armband this evening, despite only having signed for the club in August, but he led by example winning aerial battles and finding himself in the right positions to snuff out danger.

Oldham's threat in attack was not particularly formidable, but up against Football League opposition, Hjelde coped well.

    Kris Moore - 7
Touch-tight to his man from start-to-finish, Moore's positioning and aggression saw a marked improvement from the 4-4 between Leeds' under-23s and Blackburn's under-23 side last Friday.
    Lewis Bate - 8
Great intensity throughout and a good buffer for his defensive teammates, Bate performed a typically predictable tempo-dictating role in front of the centre-backs.

A few speculative passes came off; others didn't, but the endeavour was present. Never dispossessed in dangerous areas and alert to danger in his zone.

    Charlie Allen - 8
Facilitated Leeds' attacking moves on the edge of the area, spreading it wide for the wingers and on occasion breaking Oldham's defensive line with a threaded pass. Battled well and didn't give Oldham's midfielders a moment's peace.

    Sean McGurk - 9
Fastest feet on the night go to McGurk's teammate Crysencio Summerville, but the ex-Wigan youngster didn't half run him close.

A particular highlight was the first-time chop to fool an Oldham defender as his free-kick was cleared back out to him early on in the game. Combining well with his teammates in each and every game he features, which is promising.
Picked up the 'assist' for Leeds' second goal which was diverted in by Oldham captain Harrison McGahey after a driving McGurk run.

    Crysencio Summerville - 9
Sporting a new hair-do, Summerville set the tone for his 45-minute display by robbing a flat-footed Kyle Jameson inside the first five minutes.

Maybe the cornrows gave the young Dutchman the confidence to blaze past the Oldham defender time and time again, because it was an avenue he explored repeatedly during the first half. Eventually, Jameson brought down the 19-year-old, but did so illegally inside the penalty area. Stepping up to take the spot-kick was the man who won it - and what a penalty it was. Planted confidently into the roof of the net, Summerville capped a splendid run-out with another penalty-win and another goal.

    Amari Miller - 7
Battled hard on the left flank, building upon his recent performances, each of which has been encouraging. Provided an outlet, appeared confident taking on his man and asked questions of Oldham's right-back.

    Max Dean - 8
Another arduous display leading the line against senior opposition, but no complaints and no let up in his pressing - which is commendable for a player Dean's age. Snatched at a couple of half-chances, but took his goal well, even if there was a question of who got the last touch before it crossed the line.

    Substitutes:
    Nohan Kenneh - 7
Slotted in well alongside Moore; a developing partnership at the back. Hjelde's absence not noticeable in the second half, despite a late concession.

    Cody Drameh - 7
Composed and confident on the ball, Drameh breezed past pressure and partnered Kris Moore rather well on the right-side of defence in the second half. Got a foot in when needed, quelled trouble with minimal fuss.

Everyone else scores a 6 which means everyone had a good game

In a world of negativity it sometimes pays to be positive for a change
Our next 4 games are definitely winnable which takes us up to the much talked about “ When we are 10 games in”

I know mate but I believe we will pick up a load of points in thiese matches and the pressure will ease. If however we lose all 4 I am speculating that Bielsa will resign and blame himself…..
