Think the difference is some pop an extra pack of bog rolls in their trolley - got no issue with that, but others pile 2 trolleys full of the stuff in a big "**** you" to everyone else in the shop. You are right - selfishness breeds panic because none of us want to get left behind - but it's about holding your nerve and accepting that things will be back to normal in a week. The only reason there are shortages in fuel is because some whoppers are filling up their tanks/containers etc with far more than they need for the next 7 days. Why did they do this? Because the Govt and media whipped up a panic by talking about "mass HGV driver shortages" when in fact there were very few supply issues when people were buying normally FWIW every petrol station should put a £25 limit on purchases for the next 10 days - that will calm things down
As I recall most had those cans strapped to the rear. I saw one once that had a single can fixed to the spare wheel that was fixed to the rear door. If it was petrol, rather than diesel, there would have been something nasty if anyone had rear ended him. However, and as Bobby Thompson was fond of saying, 'I'm no engineer', so I wonder, does it make a lot of difference how a car transports petrol around? Tank, cans, it's all a risk. But, if this driver, Good Samaritin or not, is breaking the law, it's a pity The Law hasn't had him. Given that they have the picture and his number plate, they may yet. Then we would know, and perhaps have a deserved laugh.
We've been fortunate here with a minimal amount of lockdowns however, when we had our 1st one they opened the shops 1 hour early for the aged and vulnerable. Lass i know who works at the local supermarket was telling me that they had one particular woman who came every morning when it opened and bought 2x 24 packs of toilet roll. This went on for 2 weeks and she lives alone. That's selfish
I'm a bit selfish here admittedly, I went to top the car up at 08:30 this morning and I am still here. Mind I'm not unplugging it until it gets around 95%
Maybe a Xmas shortage would be a good thing. It could teach people they don’t need 72 mince pies, a mountain of quality street , a turkey which they normally complain about “ having” to buy cos they can’t afford it, Boots and Poundland talc sets that nobody actually wants - and see the kids are just as appreciative of 5 bits of Chinese plastic as they are of 25 bits. Bah humbug, no I don’t get excited about Xmas !
To be honest mate they were always empty Although I still have one thats been full of petrol for over a year. It was petrol I had drained from a car that hadn't moved for a while and had gone off. Which makes me laugh at anyone stocking up now as the new e10 will go off even sooner As for the bog rolls, I remember my dad calling at Asda for a 4 pack start of pandemic. Shelves were empty and me dad asked a shelf stacker to be told "some bloke was in earlier and bought a trolley full". FFS all supermarkets should limit stuff all the time, they're quick enough to do it on special offers. Like the fat couple in a Lidl with a trolley full of pasta FFS. Probably was the sort with short date since there was still so much of it, hopefully. But how many idiots bought food during them panic buys only to throw loads away ?
But there were many cases of selfish idiots going ott, An example was a prick at work start of lockdown. Showing pictures of his spare room rammed with bog rolls, tins, pasta, water ffs. One greedy selfish southern twát. The fookers in my house go through bog roll like no tomorrow and we're always running out ffs. Doesn't bother me, I'll just jump in the shower after a good dump and swill
" ..... but it's about holding your nerve and accepting that things will be back to normal in a week. The only reason there are shortages in fuel is because some whoppers are filling up their tanks/containers etc with far more than they need for the next 7 days." To be honest mate, I don't want to get into a long drawn out discussion but I can't quite agree with those points. The original shortages were caused because lorries didn't deliver causing people, in those areas, to travel to where they could get fuel. Those increase in purchases caused local people to follow suit until supplies run out there as well. With the social media bushfire things get worse quickly, the media reports it and the government tell every not to panic because there's plenty of fuel to go round ... that's a lie because it's at the depots. It may exist but you can't run a car when your local garage has no fuel. So when the government say it will al be fine, in a week, people don't believe them, especially when we're begging foreign drivers to help, they won't. The fact is that we don't know, for certain, that things will be back to normal in a week ... ... this government have done so many U-turns another wouldn't shock me tbh.
We're voting tomorrow to go back on 12hr shifts next week so I'll use even less, plus the caravan site shuts end of October. If push comes to shove I'll cycle to work, could do with getting back to that what with all the home brew
Haha we went out and bought a little tourer last night, just for fannying about up the Lakes. Bloody impulse buy
