Spaffer Johnson is always going on about Starmer being wise after the event with the benefit of hindsight but wouldn't it be nice if just once in the life of this Government Johnson and his Cabinet could demonstrate some foresight
Government now looking at bringing down the figure, at which students start to repay their loans. https://www.ft.com/content/f77fe7ee...nMkebQU7wDOWmRasMECC0myeUu6vxxdzHDbVCgWvmdF7I
Yep. It’s always easy for Johnson to accuse Starmer of being Captain Hindsight, because he knows that the media won’t correct him and point out that Starmer/Labour/Experts have pretty much predicted every government created failure before it has happened. What baffles me is that Starmer doesn’t respond by calling Johnson General Disaster, Major Catastrophe or Brigadier Bullshitter in return, with his squad of screeching sycophants that form the Cabinet.
Forcing people to give up permanent employment in favour of temporary jobs with zero stability was, of course, the point. For all of the talk about boosting the wages of UK citizens by getting rid of the foreigners, the real aim was to be able to strip the foreigners of all those pesky protections under EU law so that they would be working at the whim of the British government and corporations. The miscalculation was that many of those workers, who have the freedom to work throughout the EU at much higher wages, were not necessarily going to be begging en masse for these far worse working conditions. The UK will get those who have no other option (which tend to be the least-skilled workers), and in far fewer numbers than the UK requires to meet its own needs.
It would be a good idea if this government started investing in the people of this country so they have the skills we need instead of trying to fill vacancies with people other countries have paid to train.

Don't be silly!! This is what the army is for!!! Fill in the gaps that the civilians cannot fill!!! I did hear that the Government was going to get Forces personnel to dirve trucks to enable the restocking of empty supermarket shelves and deliver to forecourts so they don't run short of petrol again. Funnily enough, we haven't suffered like you guys, here in Mallorca so if it is a global thing, it seems to have missed Spain. Serioiusly, I am surprisined there aren't 50 million people marching on 10 Downing Street to throw the occupant out on his backside.
The issue is less about training, and more about fairly compensating people. The jobs that non-nationals do tend to be very hard work, and most people do not want to do them. They might be willing to do them if they were paid well, but the companies who offer that work do not want to pay well. The city of New Orleans is currently waist-deep in trash. It's certainly not a training issue...it doesn't require years of training to collect trash. But the companies that are employed to collect it do not pay well, and people do not want to work collecting trash for a pittance. People doing difficult jobs need to have some incentive to do them, and if UK companies want citizens to work the fields and long-haul freight routes, they're going to need to get their wallets out.
I’m not surprised. When so many people in the UK get their daily news updates from the Telegraph, Mail, Express and Sun, they are all probably blaming the problems on Covid (or Corbyn), so nothing to confirm to them that the problems are very obviously caused by Brexit. I mean, if it was Brexit causing the problems, the BBC would be all over it - they would be, wouldn’t they?
Respect for this man, And McDonald, for resigning from the Shadow Cabinet, on principle. Starmer is proving to be a man lacking principles and it wouldn’t surprise me if there was a leadership challenge at some stage.
Failure to back PR today shows that they stand for nothing. Literally allowing the system that puts the Conservatives in power to continue existing. Anything they say about believing in fairness and progress in society is just noise. I don’t just mean Starmer, Corbyn was just noise as well, he played a key part ushering in the most significant attack on people’s rights in this country in modern times by meekly allowing it to happen without even the slightest hint of fight. Useless, useless, absolutely useless tossers. (I am mildly annoyed).
Exactly the sort of self important egotist the Labour front bench could do without imo. Resigning during the party conference, and ensuring the spotlight is all on him, shows us exact how much Mr McDonald values party loyalty. Who the **** is he anyway? Not bigger than the party, if he can't work with the elected leader then he's no use to anyone. That was true of the Blairites resigning under Corbyn and it's equally true of Corbynites resigning under Starmer. The message in all these cases should be, either grab an oar or leave the boat, but perhaps have the decency not to make it all about yourself.
I think it was the ideal time to do it. Starmer was elected leader of the party, based on his saying he would stick with Socialist principles, yet he is now beginning to make Johnson look trustworthy, as a result of his not doing what he said he would and the expulsion of so many members who disagree with him. The chances are, had this resignation not happened now, it wouldn’t have garnered as much publicity, which would have meant millions of people not knowing that a Starmer led Labour Party will not fight for a decent living wage or to improve SSP. At the moment the party is ****ed. Corbyn too far to the left, Starmer so far to the right that people see no difference between him and the Tories, so why bother voting for him if he is no different. The party needs someone, I don’t know who, that is more central, who can link the left and the right of the party, and they need it soon, as there are rumblings of a GE next year.
If the back stabbing and in-fighting ****s up Labours ability to put up a bloody good fight in the next general election then they are no better than the lying tory bastards they need to oust and they will have lost my loyalty forever.
