Yep, I had less than a quarter of a tank of petrol and filled up without any queuing on the way to the match, no problem. Atm I have a hybrid perhaps full electric is the way to go.
We went for a hybrid last year but we got told at the sales room we don’t do enough miles to warrant the difference in price between a hybrid and petrol, so we bought a petrol instead.
We're suffering here, in the Cotswolds, because we have few stations and all the visitors are filling up before they leave ... ... I filled our cans for the farm machinery, early this morning, which I do every weekend and had a 'heated debate' with a bloke from Birmingham. He accused me of panic buying as he was putting £30 of petrol in his people carrier. The pump was clicking so the car was obviously full to the brim. Who knows, perhaps his car only does 5mpg.
Well other than when we went on holiday to Norfolk ( ended up with 60 mpg as well) I find the electric gets me there and back with using hardly any petrol, I get a little over 30 miles on a charge. Next year we will change the wife's car... full electric i reckon.
When I retire at the end of the year and get a nice lump sum, it will be going on a new electric car, still looking at which I prefer, using 280 plus range as the starting point, as I can’t see many trips needing more than that, also if you are driving that far in one go you really should take a break. At the moment I find I can end up doing the trip to HQ just outside Brighton without stopping, I know I shouldn’t but I do.
Just called and put 20 quid in. It's enough for me. Government have asked the 1 million people in the UK with HGV licences working in other industries to come back to driving. This is what Jimmy Hoffa stood for before all the other stuff, Truck drivers getting undercut. License costs a fortune and the wages are crap. Lads and lasses are guaranteed decent work else where now, same people that were probably treated like carp last month will make a Kings ransome next month.
It doesn't matter how many people do have fuel, there are many who don't ... ... it's like when there's been trouble at a match and some say they saw nothing as if that means it didn't happen.
My mates just left us after a visit and she’s got the biggest Ford Mustang I’ve seen and it does about 350 miles on a charge and costs absolute peanuts. I would hate to think what it cost her though.
I reckon the garage meant the difference in price between the two cars, we don’t do enough miles to cover that cost before we chop it in again. I will have another look next time. I like the idea of a hybrid though.
wait till they get rid of 'any other fuelled' car and household gas to go all electric, all those thinking of buying electric now will simply end up paying out the @rse for it when it is all there is, once the monopoly of fuel is there you know it will happen...and one of the worst to find and most common problems in cars now is electrical faults, pretty soon those speed limiters will be fitted in every road to keep you all ticking along as it will be far easier to control an all electric car and keep you all at 20 mph or no faster than 70 on motorways...until that electrical fault happens (wait for this with driverless cars as well), a car with no control and a driver with no control of the car.
Glad I WFH these days - seeing the idiots queueing round the block for petrol yesterday really winds me up
On seeing petrol stations closed down, and the government talking about having to bring the army in, is it really 'panic buying' to fill up ... ... or is it just sensible in case things get worse. And things will get worse.
Things won't get worse. There is no shortage of fuel, just a shortage of drivers. The issue will be resolved within the week. Got no issue with people getting fuel, but it's these idiots filling their tanks and spare containers leaving no fuel for others who need it No different to filling your trolley up with bog roll when in fact you only need a 9 pack. Selfishness breeds panic Put £20 in the wife's car on Sat to get her through the week. My truck is half full but as I WFH and only have the school run I don't need any. No compulsion here to waste 30 odd litres in filling up "just in case"
I hope not mate, who knows what knock on effects it could have. I still don't see filling your car as panic buying though, people naturally worry if they see stations closed ... ... the slightest queue will always prompt people to be concerned in my experience. Being told that, despite your local filling station being closed, there's plenty of fuel at the depots doesn't really reassure you. If you look at my postcode, GL54 3BJ, you'll see I don't have many options. If I have to drive around to find fuel I'll certainly fill my tank to the brim. That's not panicking, it's being quite rational imo.
Morning Mr Smug. It makes all the sense in the world to use the thousands of trained HGV drivers employed by the army to deliver fuel. Pardon my ignorance as I tend to keep away from mainstream media, but what is the reason for the lack of drivers all of a sudden. Have they said what's changed?
