    Swansea City v Huddersfield Town

    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
    Venue - Swansea.com stadium
    Date - 25 September 2021
    Kick off - 3:00pm

Following their plucky away defeat at Premier League, Brighton, in the Carabao Cup, next up for Russell Martin’s Swansea squad is a home Championship match against Huddersfield.

On Wednesday evening, Aaron Connolly scored twice as Brighton reached round four of the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 win over the Swans.

Ex-Swansea Manager Graham Potter made 11 changes to the side which had started Brighton's last Premier League game and the Seagulls had to work hard for victory.

The Swans, who made nine changes of their own, missed a number of chances as Connolly's quickfire double saw Brighton progress.

They did not have it easy against Swansea, who had enough chances to cause an upset, but were wasteful in front of goal.

Liam Cullen had their first opportunity as he turned sharply but saw a shot saved by Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele, who then gathered Rhys Williams' header before Korey Smith nodded wide.

Last Saturday, Huddersfield, who were in a Play-Off place at kick off, surprisingly lost at home to bottom club Nottm Forest, as Caretaker Manager, Steven Reid, guided Forest to their first Championship win of the season.

In their first match since Chris Hughton was dismissed, Forest deservedly ended a 13-match winless league run stretching back to last season against a disjointed Town.

Brennan Johnson sprinted away down the wing from his own half before crossing into the goalmouth for Lewis Grabban to put the Reds in front with a diving header.

And the visitors doubled the lead after the break when Town goalkeeper Lee Nicholls saved smartly from Ryan Yates only to deflect Joe Lolley's follow-up into his own net.

Of course, ex-Swans’ Head Coach, Steve Cooper has now been appointed as Hughton’s replacement.

The Swans have played the Terriers on 58 occasions, with the Swans winning 16, drawing 16 but losing 26.

    In the corresponding fixture last season, Huddersfield ran out 2-1 winners, and inflicted the Swans’ first defeat of the season;

Turning to Saturday, the Swans are in desperate need to record a first home (Championship) win of the season having drawn 3 and lost 1 of the 4 matches to date.

Similarly, Huddersfield will be desperate to get the ‘show back on the road’ and regain a spot in the Play-off places.

However, I think that the Swans will run out 2-1 winners and give Russell Martin a first home win in the Championship <cheers>

1 - 1. Well dominate possession but miss too many chances.

Thanks Taff, don't know why but I am optimistic about this one. I can't see us keeping a clean sheet so it's a 2-1 win to the mighty Swans

Russell Martin makes four changes from Swansea City’s draw at Luton for this afternoon’s Championship clash with Huddersfield Town.

Ben Cabango, Jake Bidwell, Olivier Ntcham and Joel Piroe come into the starting line-up, while Ryan Bennett, Rhys Williams, Liam Walsh and Michael Obafemi drop out from the side that started at Kenilworth Road.

Bennett, Williams and Obafemi all miss out through injury, while Walsh is among the aubstitutes.

Ben Hamer starts in goal, with Cabango joining Kyle Naughton and Ryan Manning in the back three.

Ethan Laird and Bidwell are the wing-backs, while captain Matt Grimes and Flynn Downes continue their midfield partnership.

Ntcham and Jamie Paterson will operate in advance of them, providing support for striker Piroe.

Swansea City: Ben Hamer; Ben Cabango, Kyle Naughton, Ryan Manning; Ethan Laird, Flynn Downes, Matt Grimes (captain), Jake Bidwell; Olivier Ntcham, Jamie Paterson; Joel Piroe.

Substitutes: Steven Benda, Jay Fulton, Korey Smith, Brandon Cooper, Liam Cullen, Joel Latibeaudiere, Liam Walsh.

Huddersfield Town: Lee Nicholls, Harry Toffolo, Matty Pearson, Jonathan Hogg (captain), Lewis O'Brien, Sorba Thomas, Ollie Turton, Fraizer Campbell, Danel Sinani, Levi Colwill, Tom Lees.

Substitutes: Giosue Bellagambi, Alex Vallejo, Mipu Odubeko, Josh Koroma, Scott High, Duane Holmes, Naby Sarr.

I think that's a decent apart from Bidwell who adds absolutely nothing to football.

Should have been 2-0 just after. Paterson fails to hit the back of the net from the edge of the bix

Good first half and should have been three up...second half we looked clueless and the Terriers couldn’t capitalise on their possession....thankfully three points and now a four game unbeaten run in the championship...that’s positive

Just got back from Surrey - missed the game as we had to babysit our grandson.

    My mate sent me this:

Dominant first half performance. Well taken goal from Piroe - Patterson missed a sitter (again).
Ran out of steam badly second half when Huddersfield looked the better team but they didn’t create too many chances.
Worst aspect of the day though was Martin adopting the cringeworthy Cooper fist pumps at the end of the game…
