So do you think that was Warbles pre match instructions......lets not try play our game?!?!? Or do you think that their fast, heavy press stopped us from doing it?
Yes, of course that was Warburton's plan - we don't try to play out from the back because their press is very good. They didn't have to impose it on us, because we just lumped it forward to avoid it.
Don't like to single players out for criticism but Seny error was poor and Chair's slight arrogance led to their second. Wasn't expecting to win in fairness but they got our hopes up for the draw! We'll be fine. Looking forward to slightly more winnable games.
We lumped it forward because they totally dominated the midfield with their press, we lumped it forward because they not only hunt in packs but also close the next pass down. Its disciplined, high fitness levels and extremely hard to play against. We lumped it forward because the next pass to feet was a player marked. Maybe our movement wasnt the best due to playing tuesday. Johanson our ball player hardly moved,
Not one to kick Seny when he is down; he made a big mistake and that turned the game around. We were struggling before it, but we were frustrating them too. The goal gave them impetus, hope and expectation; it made us worry, fear and put us on the back foot. what’s done is done, opportunity to gain a point and rob WBA of three is gone.
If dieng hadnt fumbled, we had a point, if chair hadnt pissed about we had a point, if both those errors didnt happen we had 3 and people would be saying Warbles tactics were bang on. Unfortunately errors arent a forseen tactic that you can manipulate.
To be fair, I was claiming we had our tactics wrong when we were 1-0 up. We gave away the ball more than in any other game this season, because we tried to play a style that we're not good at: long ball. This is what happens when you don't play to your strengths and try to play to another team's strengths. I'm not outrageously disappointed. But I think we could have won that game if we'd protected the ball more. Warburton has usually got most things right. Just not today. That's OK.
My point is that we'd conceded before the start that we couldn't play our game. Sometimes you have to play the ball to a player that's marked in the expectation that he can either lay it off or turn past his marker, or maybe draw a foul. All we did instead was continually give away possession. You were impressed by West Brom, I think they're a horrible side. Would you want to watch them every week?
We are too open and our wing backs aren't good enough defensively. I did think that was Odebayo's best performance in the 2nd half, so Warburton moved him and put Kakay there
Why would i want to watch them every week? Im a QPR fan. Strange question. Why do you think we went long? Why do you think we couldnt play our usual game? The majority of balls were clearences, a lot of panic balls because all our options were marked, why do you think that was? What makes you think we had conceded before the start?
We never tried to play out at all because Warburton had decided before the start that we wouldn't, that was plain. They didn't have to impose their press on us because we'd decided to try to bypass it rather than play round it. We just gave away possession.
Eh???? We bypassed their press??? Sweet jesus you really did watch a different game to me. Did you see how many men they had in advanced positions when it was our goal kick? There was nowhere to go hence kicking it out to the flank for Dunne to try head. That was part of the problem too with a forced selection. Our left side centre back was right footed making playing out from the back even more difficult. You will be telling me diengs mistake was tactical next!
Will leave it at that Stroller, footy is all about opinions and mine is that 2 mistakes cost us tonight rather than tactics being wrong. My opinion is that we didnt have chance to play our game because their press was too intense and cut all our passing options down, hence us going long.
Take it easy Bob, I realise you're more used to sycophancy than disagreement. I meant bypassing by aimlessly kicking long, as I'm sure you understood really.
Im more used to disagreement when it comes to football but i also appreciate that it comes down to opinions. Apart from the substitutions, Warburton and his team actually impressed me with their tactics tonight, which we would all be jumping for joy if there hadnt have been two cock ups.
Barnsley were our nemesis when Ishmael was there. He has taken the same tactics to WBA Difference was Warburton changed our tactics for this match and it nearly worked. Two individual errors cost us. More worring is injuries to Field, McCallum, Wallace, deWisj and Johansen.. Very likely... 5 starters out Only Amos is making his way back to fitness. We are going to be really stretched in the autumn
