Went there last season for Spennymoor v Blyth Spartans pre-season friendly, seem to remember Blyth running up quite a hill in the first half <laugh>. Mind, can't say Croft Park is much better. One of the only grounds where you can play a pass along the floor and the other player has to chest it down.

Im pretty sure St James has a pretty obvious slope. If you look at the concrete step on the gallowgate end it gets slowly lower heading along the east stand untill it disappears.

Looks about a foot higher at the opposite side.

There is a big slope at SJP, if you look at the two sets of advertising boards. Thats why when we win the toss we always play uphill first half...

I am sure when I had a tour of St James when I was a kid, they said one of the corners was lower than the rest of the pitch.

There actually is a slope believe it or not. Fairly noticeable up in the family area.

Whenever Newcastle win the toss they choose to play downhill towards the Gallowgate in the second half.

Why do you think 8 goals were scored in the Gallowgate end against Arsenal? <whistle>

I have noticed that we always come out after the opposition in the second half. Maybe it is because they have been hypnotised by Pardew and his dashing smile!

Ive played on the hallowed turf and seem to remember a slight slope towards the gallowgate end (where I got my goal! :D )

...........my legs seemed not want to work going the other way in the second half.....!!

    :D

I never knew there actually was a slope <laugh>

Pitch has to be slightly curved for rain run-off as well though, so it should have a very slight peak in the centre (forgetting the apparent slope towards the Gallowgate).

Explains why Shola was so good when he came on against Spurs - he was just rolling downhill!
