I have to put that down to the manager mate.... I didn't like the set up, I didn't like our intensity or lack of it and wasn't over the moon with subs either. As a home side, we were taken apart, especially in the first half....was marginally better in 2nd half, although, final 3rd was disappointing... Think Palmer and Semenyo would have been better options to bring on IMO
Sorry mate it's not theory it's 100% logic, so by your theory/logic if we played the near perfect game but either lost or drew to an horrendous mistake in the dying seconds, that is a team problem? Nobody is disputing that we got very lucky, Luton will consider it 2 points dropped, but last minute mistakes have cost us 2 home wins and 4 points, anything else about what we did or didn't deserve is nonsense, we had 90 seconds and couldn't see it out and were undone by yet another personal mistake. What I will concede is that in the build up to the equaliser, Luton achieved and not for the first time in the game easy access into our box with ball at feet, something we never achieved all game.
I can agree with most of this, I thought the first sub was wrong, should have been Palmer or Semenyo, Wells is overrated. The second sub of DaSilva for Vyner was spot on, Vyner needs to improve drastically defensively, he is the weak link. Again I see why he brought King on to hopefully strengthen midfield, but it never worked and sometimes that happens.
No it would have been a costly mistake.....IMO.......Yes Bentley made an error, but the rest of the teams display last night were full of errors leading to a poor performance.....It's how I see things.......Get the team playing well and errors would be less likely....It's how I managed teams back in the day!!
And last night and Blackpool were both costly errors, that have cost us 2 home wins and 4 points, that is reality, it is fact and is exactly what happened.
If we'd beaten Blackpool and Luton (undeservedly) do you not think we'd be in a false league position ? We'd be just 3 points off the top. I just hope one day that we learn to see out games, which has been a major problem for years and years.
I think that is spot on, which to a point is what happened at the beginning of last season when we were near the top.... I believe we should learn by our mistakes and performances, which in turn will put us in a realistic position with the team we have...
Actually, I can see SOME logic in this - when the GK is called into action it's because the other 10 players have collectively failed to contain the opposition. He's the last line of defence which means ALL the other lines have been breached.
So we will have to agree to disagree......yours are down to the odd mistake, mine is down to the overall performance..
Blackpool was our best performance of the season, most people say that but we were undone by piss poor finishing and a calamitous last 30 seconds. As I said you don't always get what you deserve from games, we didn't v Blackpool and Luton didn't last night it's the nature of the beast. Do I think we would be in a false position? almost certainly but instead of heading back completely to drawing board after every home failure, we could just be tweaking the smaller issues. Lots of teams are in false positions, I give Manu as a classic example.
It was a mistake, of course it was......but the teams performance last night in my eyes was more disappointing.........really really lucky to come away with anything TBF..
Our home form has been dreadful for months and months if not years,,,,,,needs more than tweeking......needs a different thought process going into the games IMO..
We were lucky to be 1-0 up with only extra time to go play because we’d not played well and Luton’s finishing was poor, but 1-0 up we were . We then made a hash of a position that really didn’t threaten much and they equalised. We should have been able to see the game out. A similar thing happened against Blackpool, we can’t keep throwing away points in that manner against similar or worse teams than ourselves or we will regret it big time.
The last line of defence that with 90 seconds left, had one job to do and failed miserably, but hey ho? How do you explain the Blackpool game according to the stats Bentley never had a save to make until they scored with the last kick of the match, surely that was down to individual mistakes by Vyner who instead of putting a free kick back to Bentley kicked it straight into touch and then our non midfielder Weimann never challenged their player on the edge of our box? Again people cannot have it both ways.
I do spot an hypocrisy here, you are always defending individual players who have been generally poor since arriving as being confidence players, surely that must come into our dreadful home form?
For me the overwhelming problem is both full back positions (ongoing since promotion) a reliable number 10 who can thread a low dangerous pass into the opponents box, lack of a tall striker to get onto the end of some of the inviting (but wasted crosses) in the last 2 home games.
Didn't we have one of those in Eliasson a while back? Top number of assists in the league when he was with us and hardly ever started a game. One of my biggest frustrations under LJ. What a waste of talent.
When the highlights only show our goal and the rest Luton’s attacks shows that we were crap last night.
He’s done nothing since, and was getting sussed out in games. Offered nothing defensively so apart from the odd crossing per game was his game. Plus you look at his actual games played in the last season he was played more than people think. He was used more effectively as an impact sub.
As we start yet another squad rebuild, we're going to have good and bad days. For me, getting to 50 points asap is the only target, whether those points come home or away, and the sooner we can achieve it the better. But I quite agree that some players also need to cut out the critical errors at critical times in matches that are costing us points, and we need to be providing much better service to the strikers, who also need to be more clinical when given decent, or even half chances in front of goal, if we're ever going to make real progress and be far enough ahead in games that it won't matter if we concede late in games.
