I make 50 points enough to escape from relegation, so 12 games in and on 26 points means we only need another 24 points from 34 games to be truly safe! This must be cause to celebrate!
Yes indeed as Chilco says, slightly premature. Interesting to think it'll take 50 points to escape relegation. That's some going to get that, not for the Lads perhaps, but for any team wishing to retain Championship status. It's an indicator on how competitive the Championship, and probably the whole Football League, is.
Speaking with my half full beer glass, we are 1 point short of being a third of the way to 81 points, a total that would have secured automatic promotion in the past 4 seasons.....that is just another 15 wins and 10 draws from 34 games. That is a win ratio of less than 50% and our current win ratio is 66%.
Oh stop it..! I felt a leap of excitement as I read that. I'm trying to keep my feet on the ground. Now where are my hammer and nails I keep for emergencies..?
In 2010/2011 the final 3 spots had 42 points, with 4th from the bottom at 48 points In 2009/2010 the 3rd from the bottom had 47 points and the 4th from the bottom had 49 points. In 2008/2009 (when we were relegated) the 3rd from the bottom had 46 points and the 4th from the bottom had 51 points. In 2007/2008 the third from the bottom had 52 points and the 4th from the bottom had 53 points. So to average the past 4 years, it's 46.75 points will get you relegated, while 50.25 will get you to 4th from the bottom. saintgreg10 - I'm impressed. I did that quick math because I thought you must be off by a few points. I guess not!
Looking slightly further ahead, we are more than a quarter of the way to getting 100 goals and 100 points in a season. Now THAT would be an achievement!
Yay, I've sort of been wanting someone to write about this. No word of a lie, one of the first things that came into my head after the final whistle on Tuesday was "well, that's half way to safety" haha. I don't know about you guys, but some things never change about being a Saints fan for me - and I wouldn't want them to.
Since NA's arrival in the building, Saints have averaged 70% win ratio, a really impressive achievement, and I believe a win at Reading will boost our average to 70% for this season alone. Come on Saints.
I have to say that even before the season started I was not worried about relegation. We were never going to be one of the three worst teams in the Championship.
