It now seems inevitable that Derek McInnes will be unveiled as Bristol City manager in the next few hours, So now seems like the most opportune time to make a request to all City fans.

Whatever people felt about the candidates and potential managers now is the time to back the man the board have chosen. Many were desperate for the big name and gave valid arguments for their opinions, Some wanted Robins, Some wanted Jones (Myself included)... All of that is now irrelevant. What matters is we must give the new manager time and support in his quest to save us from relegation and to instil his theories and ideals on this team. I hate to put a downer on any positivity at the moment but there is still a very real chance that we could be relegated this season and if that does happen I hope the fans continue to allow the manager the time to make the necessary changes at the club.

Make no mistake, we're in a bit of trouble and it would be foolish to think that we are suddenly going to become unbeatable on the arrival of Del. I just hope that should we not improve as fast as some seem to take for granted we will we may end up with a lot of disappointed and upset fans looking for a scapegoat again.

Let's just back him from the start and let him prove himself to us rather than making the judgement before a ball is kicked and sticking by that in an attempt to look clever if you are proved right!

COYR, Let's find that belief and unity and togetherness that we rode so delightfully in the early GJ days.

    <ok>

Couldn't agree more. Things couldn't get any worse than they have been for the last few years at Ashton Gate, so the expectation isn't sky high like it was the year we missed out on promotion to the EPL. He will need time to clear house a bit, start fresh, bring in people he know can do the job he needs to be done at this level both on and off the pitch!

    good thread <ok>

some city fans in work are not happy that its out of robins and mcinnes. they wanted a bigger name like jones or curbs. a couple of them has said they wont bother going if either robins or mcinnes is the manager. i made a passing comment that whoever gets the job needs support and a chance. reading comments on here from the level headed ones, sounds like you need a big clear out like what we did in the summer. so who ever comes in as manager needs time and a chance. this thread is spot on <ok>

    Agree 100%

We have 34 games left so I'm not worried about League 1 looming as their is still a long way to go

Every fan wants a big name.. Im sure some of your fans did.. curbishley o'neil.. in all due respect why would they even come here..

I think having a small low profile manager is the way to go these days.. what happened the last time we got a big name manager..

I agree with you, that we need to back the manager and I will.......So long as we can see that he's making a difference.....However if we still play dire football, still struggling as we are and still looking at relegation, then the pressure will be on... Relegation is NOT an option IMO.

McInnes was my first choice, over Dave Jones, over Billy Davies, over SOD, over Mark Robins, all other names linked like Curbishley, Hughes, O'Neill, were absurd and unrealistic in my view... McInnes is our man. But he will need time.

Lewman - absolutely hit the nail on the head. We all want instant success but the man can only work with the materials he is given. On the surface we have a decent squad but what is lacking is a cohesive structure and confidence. He'll need several weeks to figure out what is what and who is who.

All we can ask for is commitment from the players and a bit of luck.

Hopefully the fans will play their part and instill some well needed confidence.

Young, hungry and so far successful - coming south to us the next step in hopefully a brilliant career
We went for a "big name" in Coppell and look how that ended up.
Good luck Derek - I'm behind you all the way!!

I never ever wanted Jones as my previous posts will testify. The more I read about McInnes the more he seemed the right choice to me from early on.

None of us would have said no to M O'N or Alan Curbishley being our manager, but unless their applications didn't result in interviews then we have to assume that they weren't falling over themselves to apply in the first place. Slow and steady wins the race as someone once said, and we've certainly got plenty of experience in not setting the world alight.

I therefore hope that Del can spot the pain points at the club early on, whether it's certain players who need to be moved on, changing routines, replacing other backroom staff, team preparation, lifestyles, training methods or whatever and make some noticable changes and improvements.

He has my 100% backing no matter what the outcome is or whether it actually works in the fullness of time or not.
