If you think about Grosjean's accident, if the canopy had been there would he have been able to get out? Always a balancing act to cope with any accident.
As others are pointing out there is no perfect safety solution. I still maintain that the increase in safety measures results in more risk taking, which was not the objective. Grosjean would be dead if getting out was harder, narrowing the top of the halo would make it difficult for a driver to get out too. The only other answer is, increased safety measures should not encourage increased risk taking. For me the only answer is increased penalty. Risks that threaten lives should result in a points deduction from the tally earned so far if a driver is deemed to be predominately at fault or a one race ban if no points earned. Obviously this should only be for the extreme incidents. Yes we want them to race but to do so as if the extra safety measures had not been added.
There is some good footage from FIA from the 360 cameras about the crash. Not sure if everyone can see it but you can see all the debris fly into Lewis's cockpit and the tyre hit his head!!!!! You can slow it down to 0.25 speed then rotate to any view you want with Lewis's car first them Max's. To give Max a little more credit that I had previously he does appear to try and turn left cutting across the kerbs but I think he bounced off the kerbs and couldn't avoid the end result. Then again he could have just steered as if he was trying to make 2nd corner. Definitely a close one, maybe halo should be a little higher at the sides to protect top of drivers head a bit more? Sort of angled from front up towards the air intake a little?
Pretty sure with the way Max was coming in there, Had Hamilton got out of his way, there's not much chance Hamilton was making it out of the next turn with any road.
Only now just seeing that Helmut has basically accused Hamilton of feigning a sore neck, saying something about Merc putting on a show that poor Hamilton was now suddenly injured. Can the bloke not just keep shut for 5 minutes? If it had been the other way around, they'd be banging on about Hamilton trying to murder Max. They really are quite something.
Agreed, for the longest time he was alone in 3rd place, to slow for the Merc but too quick for everyone else so his crash attitude wasn't on show. It is again now as he's got the fastest car at most tracks with Merc not far behind (or slightly ahead at some tracks).
