I think I'm sort of wandering into Solid territory and the 'experimental' nature of the Covid vaccines with regard to children. The childhood vaccines you name are all longstanding and unless a parent is just antivax no matter what, there's very little risk so not much need to worry. Let's not forget that smallpox was eradicated by vaccination. However, for a growing child I think there is a need to be more cautious.

I would put it this way - I would encourage my children to have their children vaccinated against childhood illnesses ( I didn't need to as they all chose independently to have their children vaccinated anyway) but if they asked my advice about the Covid jab I don't think I could encourage it. My grandchildren are actually all too young to be considered for it ..... yet.

    HPV?

Eliminating cervical cancer seems a laudable aim but it's a reasonably recent one that a lot of anti vaxxers jump up and down about.

Theres a difference between that and covid though.

Imo the immune systems.are.so strong that they react or over react which is really the issue in rare cases.

    I love reading this stuff.

"I do feel guilty," Amelia says. "I never mention it to anyone, because I think they'll judge me or think I'm an anti-vaxxer. It does feel like I'm hiding from everyone.
"I am healthy and young and I don't like putting things in my body," she says,

Identifying a person's "trigger" motivation is seen as a highly effective way of tackling vaccine scepticism or indifference.
"This can be a wide range of things," cognitive psychologist Stephan Lewandowsky, from Bristol University, says.
Research suggests reminding people of the common good - protecting a grandparent or parent - helps them realise "they have a social responsibility - and they may be more willing".
"Some can't be bothered - but if it's around the corner and you give them a free hotdog, like in Germany, then that can be really successful."
Amelia says her trigger would be not being able to go on holiday without having had a vaccine.

I love reading the absolute trivial rubbish some come up with. it can be really funny.

They should just admit they are scared.

the more serious stuff about ethnic mistrust is far more serious and rooted in massive issues of abuse and hard lessons that get passed down.

the thing is the Covid vaccine ,unlike the vaccines in your post ,offers no real health benefits for that age group which is why the Scientists on the Vaccination committee didn't recommend it so i personally think it is wrong to lump all parents as anti vaxxers just because they decide that they don't want their children having it .

I’ve seen so many people say things like ‘I don’t like putting things into my body’.

How many of them take painkillers? How many of them have done drugs and alcohol or smoked cigarettes or weed?

How many of them eat McDonald’s or any other fast food that they have no idea what’s actually in it?

99.99% have no idea when they drink water (and they all have to) what the government have added to it or what companies have added to keep it "fresh" or how the plastic leech or don't.

the fact is that yes an intravenous injection is different to injecting things as the bodies defences are bypassed but the most basic common sense says that when someone tests a thing 3 times with the final test having 30,000 people and that test is then vetted then safety has been taken care of.

I'm not sure if the saddest thing or most hilarious thing is people asking nurses and doctors for the vaccine on their covid death bed. It must be so ****ing awful for a doctor to have to shake their head and say its too late but equally there's the no sympathy side of the argument as well.

and yet it is no longer considered safe to give AZ to under 40's due to something that wasn't identified in the trials .It is fairly common for approved treatments to later have amendments made to there safety notices as more info becomes available after widespread usage in general population .

once we get over the bleeding heart save the world mentality out there everyone will get a booster.

a lot of places simply don't want to vaccinate etc so the reality is to protect progress and keep things open a booster is the best thing to do and all the bleeding hearts can go shove it :)

I have two female friends who have given the "I don't put things in my body" spiel. Tbf to them, they have both been this way long before covid came along - alternative hippy types.
I also have a male friend (rapidly losing that status) who believes in any and every conspiracy hypothesis available from chemtrails to 5G death rays - regardless of whether or not they contradict one another. He likes the one that says that Bill Gates has put a microchip in the vaccine that's going to turn us into bloody zombies or whatever.
I don't know how people manage to get through their lives with such a tenuous grasp on reality.

I've wondered this and the only thing i can come up with is that we live in such a safe and coddled time that really unless they walk out under a bus they can live and breed without an issue.

I mean these are the types who are the first to go in a real war or famine situation.

There will be those who are genuinely afraid of needles who won't travel to countries that require certain vaccinations, against yellow fever, for instance. There are also those who are afraid of taking anything that could be described as medication, real phobias that are very hard to overcome. I can understand those people and their reluctance. What I don't like are people who have a platform using that platform to scare others, who, left to their own devices, would have the vaccine. In America the situation is so politicised it's bordering on dangerous.

I also have a number of friends who were initially accepting of the anti-covid measures but are now feeling worn down by them (aren't we all?). They're now starting to come out with "we've had enough of this now" type grumblings - as though there is some agency behind it and said agency can just bring it to a close if it chooses.
I've said to them that we of my generation and subsequent ones, in this country, have led a comparatively privileged, safe existence - and we are for the first time faced with a serious large-scale challenge. Imagine being born around the turn of the 20th century and having to somehow get through The Great War, Spanish flu, the depression, WWII etc. Or during our lifetime, being in Africa, South America, Vietnam or Cambodia for instance.
I know some people are finding it hard, but really the only way is to get through it by whatever means necessary. Some mistakes have been made, and probably still are being made, because it's not something we were prepared for.
I feel that there are too many people who have no real perspective on life, no interest in anything outside of their own little worlds. It's just been too easy for them and now they resent any restrictions on their lifestyle.

As a child I was a bit phobic about needles - then I had meningitis and was like a pincushion for weeks. I've never worried about them since.

You would wonder what some would do if there were bombs dropping form the sky rather than snuffles in school.

there doesn't seem to be an awful lot of "right lets get on with it" attitude.

I mean as we look around BP are shutting petrol stations due to lack of drivers. M&S are closing up in France, cant get stock, supermarkets are out of grub. Unionist in NI are complaining about sausages or something. nothing affects most people and they and ignore it all and whinge that their whatever isn't there on time.

We are all 3 days from nothing to eat. reality check. thats the global supply chain and in march 2020 they all jumped and bought out all the toilet roll and left pensioners to starve. in spain workers walked out of care homes and left old people to die!

After about a week of covid we were all fairly alright unless we got it. all was sorted and we got back to work and got on with it and 18months later we've not have any real shortages etc. it really has been a testment to modern science, business supply chains and TBH the thing was THAT DEADLY either. Its bad enough to be a big issue to destroy the health services but we got through.

some wanted us to forget it existed after 3 weeks though. I do wonder. if there were bombs dropping what would they do?
