One thing I took from the game was how often fans were singing HNM's name. Obviously City fans have seen him far more than I have. Nevertheless I don't see it yet, one fan told me Saturday that HNM reminded him of Gerry Gow, that rendered me speechless. Anyone can see that he has the potential but as yet I see a player who runs forever and profligate with a final ball. He's still a bit lightweight and not the greatest in a tackle. I hope Pearson gives him a chance playing him centrally against Luton, he seems a fish out of water playing right side. Tbf - HNM needs positional help playing right side, he won't get that from an out of position Vyner. Inver - numerous fans around me Saturday didn't take their eyes off their iPhones and gave running commentaries of Ronaldo and other Prem games. I also couldn't get over how many left their seats in the 37th minute for 'half time' refreshments. I said on the way home that many fans went more for the beer than the football. It was like a bloody music festival before the game. Victor Meldrew.
I’ve never been HNMs greatest fan - he reminds me of Animal from the muppets more than Gerry Gow, but more recently when watching him from my bedroom I am starting to believe that there IS a decent footballer in there. As for people leaving early both at half time and just before the final whistle; I’ve always been bemused by that, but I guess if people don’t want to see the full 90 minutes they’ve paid for it’s up to them - I hate it when they are pushing past in front of me whilst m trying to watch the bloody game though. … and don’t get me started on the plastics….
HNM it was obvious that that there was a talent there, my problem was because of his age and stature he was being exposed in an already weak midfield, getting beaten up week in and week out and he was never ever strong enough, towards the end of last season it was obvious he was getting physically stronger and although not quite there at the strength level desired, the summer break seems to have worked wonders for him strength wise and he has been our most consistent player IMHO. The Gerry Gow comparison is silly because it was a far different game then, he reminds me more of a Gary Shelton type player, he has an uncanny ability to win the ball back fairly from behind, he doesn't shirk tackles unlike a couple of ex BCFC 'midfielders' I could name and his energy levels are just superb. Needs work on his longer passing and finishing, although on Saturday I saw an improvement in both. January and the summer could be interesting because I suspect he is being closely watched by bigger clubs.
