Someone who follows DTLW has posted this as MLTs address. Matt Le Tissier 1 lost the plot Guernsey C0V1 D19
Yet another reason for mostly ignoring social media. In my world MLT is just the guy who scored all those magnificent goals for Saints
Beyond being totally wrong about the mortality rate, we *do* spend that much effort trying to end influenza. The problem is that influenza mutates at an incredibly fast rate, far faster than COVID, and there are dozens and dozens of strains with differing genetic markers, and no conventional vaccine offers significant protection against all of them. The best we have been able to do is guess which subtypes would be most prevalent in a given season and hope that those strains didn't drift too far from the sample used in the vaccine. mRNA may change that, in that it might be possible to find a bunch of genetic markers for a bunch of different strains and program an immune response to all of them at the same time through a broad-spectrum vaccine. But that's a major, major challenge, and probably requires annual refinement and boosters and all that jazz. All of which I absolutely expect will happen, just not overnight.
So we'll be back to travelling again albeit with testing and digital CV certs, we've got ours so ready to go but it's the same old story. We just hate that situation when you're picking up your bags at the airport, and everyone's luggage is better than yours. A real worst case scenario.
Worst case scenario (pun intended) is when Virgin don't load your luggage on the way home, then find it and expect you to pay for its transfer from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight. I just said, 'I will not.'....and they changed their minds and coughed up.
Just seen warnings that air prices will soar next year. I would pay twice as much if we returned to how simple travel was before. Not cost that will stop me, but all the complicated rules and hold ups. Thought I might holiday this year, then 2022....now realising that I may never go abroad again. Holidays are supposed to make you feel good....nothing good about worrying and long queues. Perhaps the days of cheap and easy air travel are over....guess that may be a good thing in the long run.
Bit difficult getting a train to South Africa ……pity Cecil Rhodes never managed to achieve his dream of rail line from Cairo to Cape Town Of course, a few years ago, I could have taken the Royal Mail Steamer down there, but that was stopped too So, I’ll be playing a fortune to queue up, take multiple pieces of paper with me and hope it goes smoothly. It’ll never be the same, but I need to get there for my sanity!
