We forget that serena William's has been done for a few years really. It's a hangover. The women behind get plenty of cash so theres a standard there determined by the despite to get to the top. This 18 year old is just out of school so has to emerge sometime and with individual sports bursting on the scene is not unusual. She's got a boost off wimbledon helping her out and got to 4th round. This story could have been a home title win honestly bar her withdrawing. She's now capitalised on that home boost by winning the lot at flushing meadows. I'm willing to assume the standard was high but she now has to go have a rest and come back better next season with tour starting all over again and exploit this. Unlike some I'm not so hot on Osaka and that stuff. Its debilitating and a shame but it's a pro sport so potentially career ending just like a knee injury except more difficult. I would say this is wide open if this girl has her head screwed on and focused. She just has to keep stepping up
Spoiler: Spoiler classic old school take him out stuff. That's near death experience right there. Verstappen just takes a quick look and walks off. Didnt even ask if he was ok. Just walked off. Said that's what happens when you dont leave room. Perhaps a reference to Silverstone? Floor or verstappen car could have beheaded hamilton but for protective stuff and rear wheel went right over his head. Halo just proved best possible tech. When you add in verstappen temper after the bad pit stop and imo that's a he is not getting past move not caring what happens. Old school.
Spoiler: Spoiler verstappen and red bull need to realise they are still in public and need to go private and get their story straight. Now we have a big story coming. Just like last year. Who wins this??
Spoiler: SPOILER Lewis squeezed him into the tight chicane, neither were ever backing out of that, the squeeze combined with the sausage kerbs ended up bouncing the RB and from there it lifts up onto the Merc. Really scary to see that, glad the halo and cockpit structure is so strong otherwise that could've been very bad for Lewis, you don't realise how easy it is to die in one of these cars sometimes. In a sense it's proper old school racing like you say and good to see, two fast, stubborn drivers not giving an inch. There's something vindictive and very hot headed in Max though which I think is due to him and RB thinking that Hamilton was due one after Silverstone and other events so it's just karma or divine retribution and Hamilton's just got what he's deserved. I'm still calling it a racing incident but I think if there's a penalty coming it will be Hamilton who will get it, probably just about deservedly for leaving very little to no room going into the corner.
Spoiler: Spoiler theres no way theres a penalty , for sure it's a racing incident and yes if you look at le clear and norris you can actually leave room. This looks like two idiot McLaren drivers playing you are not fast enough and bottas and perez coming. Bottas should win this but I think his tyres will go off before he can get there.
Spoiler: spoiler I have nothing against Red Bull but I don't like how they conduct themselves as a team, usually when things get tight on track between Max and Lewis, what they have been doing is very nefarious, snidey and pushing what we might call sporting behaviour and perhaps stepping over that boundary, I do think Lewis was aggressive in that situation, as was Max, but he needed to be and Max might look at how he dealt with the emerging situation on track. Certainly be interesting to hear the RB opinion on that. I'm sure they'll be crying like last time once they have to speak to the cameras.
Spoiler: Spoiler both teams are as bad as each other, it's all political and snide stuff from both of them. I'm fairly sure bother will be falling over each other to get their story in the media before they see the stewards. I can hear hamilton talking about nearly dying here very shortly
Spoiler: spoiler They are and it is, I just personally find Red Bull worse and more annoying. We know exactly the sort of line to expect from both teams. It's all inevitable from this point. Just enjoy the fall out I guess. Should be a McLaren 1-2 from here
Spoiler: Spoiler its all bust assured. Bottas tyres are going and will be on podium. Disappointed in norris's political messages wanting them to tell ricciardo to pull over. Ricciardo is one of the best if he can get back to consistency
Spoiler: spoiler 1-2 for McLaren then. Bottas fading in the race at the front end even though he made the podium and again showing why Merc are justified in replacing him. He has more than the car to get in amongst the McLarens, very good drive from the back for him though. Norris has had it easy at McLaren for a while being the team darling and not having a real challenge in the other car. Ricciardo can win a WC with the right car, the McLaren hasn't been the right car for him and his driving style so far but it seems he's obviously been working on that with what he has. He's a world class driver and this has been coming so I'm happy for him. Norris is a top talent as well. If they can keep pushing on they will be a formidable outfit. It's actually ominous regarding Ricciardo because he's managed to manhandle an unsuited car to work under him, so once the design direction goes more in a direction that suits him with more of his input he will be very quick. That was a great race. Monza provides, a real race track.
Spoiler: Spoiler Wolff is on making sure that the blame is really verstappen and how he could have killed hamilton and all of that. Now verstappen is on. Clearly coached what to say, all very conciliatory and all of that that hamilton just pushed him onto the kerbs and that was that. He has been coached to deal with Silverstone and that and said he wanted to work with hamilton to race and clearly he was alongside fighting for position and hamilton squeezed him out. Keeps saying you need two people to work together
Spoiler: If... If Verstappen can crash into Lewis in every race remaining he could probably win the title.
Spoiler: spoiler The stewards have given Verstappen a three place grid penalty for the next race in Russia. Their explanation makes sense having seen the incident another couple of times and thought about it; he clearly got the red mist, lost it in the car when he knew he was going to be behind Hamilton and went too far
Fantastic for McLaren. WTF was Lewis thinking trying to drive with the RB on his head? I think the penalty for Max is very harsh. Neither if them were giving space imo PS... Spoilers don't matter now right?
I've no issue with Norris hints over the radio either, it was worth a shot. Ric deserved the win but Norris would have been just 2pts off Bottis who is third in the championship.
