It's official! "Manchester United are top of the league again - as Britain's most hated club. The 19-time champions pulled in more almost a third of the total vote in a survey of fans. Chelsea - three-times Premier League champions - got 10% of the hate vote, with Arsenal just behind them with 9.3%." (Source: The Daily Star) So, the most hated clubs are:- United Chelsea Arsenal I am surprised to find that LFC is missing from the top three, but otherwise I think it's pretty fair
I don't know who they polled, as this makes it appear that they only asked people that are bothered by success, at first glance. They're the three most successful clubs of recent times. City will be up there soon. Liverpool should probably be concerned by their absence! I can understand Spurs fans having a dislike for each club, as Arsenal and Chelsea are traditional and regional rivals and we've been robbed repeatedly at Old Trafford in recent years. Arsenal and in particular Arsene Wenger seem to have had a bust up with virtually every club in the league recently, so I guess that's understandable. Chelsea's finances piss people off, too. The underhand methods of the Mancs can be a bit abrasive.
Never really hated United, myself. They have some dislikable characters but as a club there are far worse, namely Chelsea, Liverpool and City. I hate Arsenal out of default more than anything.
Pretty obvious that they would be the top 4, as the most successful clubs they are far easier to hate. But what do people think of other hated clubs? Personally I have always had a strong dislike for Villa, although i have no idea why... (think it's a combination of their fans, style of play and strip - just bugs me) I know a lot of people dislike Newcastle and Leeds as well, largely down to their fans thinking they have a right to success for some reason.
For me, it's always been Arsenal and 'Pool, purely down to the arrogance of their fans. United fans, for me, are far too plastic to despise, as I don't really see them as true fans, but mere glory hunters. I think the City fans are stupid on account of that pathetic dance they do when they score a goal, and turn their backs on the pitch. But I cannot say I despise them, yet. Perhaps, in time, I will grow to despise them.
I've always wondered if Arsenal would be less hated if they played the exact same brand of football(well, maybe without the copius diving), but had someone other than Wenger managing the club. OK, someone other than Wenger, Ferguson, Mourinho, Allardyce, Benitez... Personally, I'd say my top two most hated clubs were MUPLC and Liverpool, with Chelsea a close third.
Not sure where we're ranked but personally I enjoy our club being disliked by opposition fans, the victories are always sweeter! Losing p*sses me off anyway regardless of what club.
Good to see Liverpool so hated - of course, their fans refuse to believe that anyone could possibly dislike their blue-eyed boys, which is part of the reason they're so f'n infuriating...
I'd expect us to be pretty high up, as we've got a big traditional rival and at least two other local clubs hate us more than their own traditional rivals. Chelsea and West Ham are normally more concerned with us than QPR/Fulham and Millwall. Portsmouth aren't too keen either, after we saved their club. I'd expect Leeds to have the biggest disparity between actual league position and hate league place.
Currently i hate City more than anyone, including Arsenal. At least you can admire the way Arsenal are run and the way they play.
I don't hate City. Their fans stuck with the club when they were relegated down to the third tier, so they've earned some success, despite the way that the club has gone about it. They appear to be struggling more to sell tickets now though, which is just odd.
Part of the reason a lot of people aren't exactly fond of City is that, as soon as they started buying success, their fans started to beocme like a hideous cross between Man Utd and Chelsea fans - on one hand as entitled as the lot from the other side of the city, on the other obnoxious because they gloat about their clubs' means and accuse everyone of jealousy. That and the sodding Poznan...
Hate is maybe too strong a word. However, like Ensil, I intensely dislike Citeh, and everything they represent about what's going wrong with the game, today.
