I only hear it used by right wingers as an insult to liberals, so they're not going to be very woke by definition.
I always thought gammon originated with fat old white men, going red in the face shaking in anger at what they read in their morning paper. The whole woke thing being an insult, came about with people moaning about everything, being woke to the plight of vegetables or the struggles of the average ginger. I can understand why black people get a bit upset about it being used in such away.
As with most terms that enter into mainstream culture it quickly becomes over used and applied to the wrong circumstances. Examples Gammon, Snowflake, Boomer, You need to educate yourself ( I hate this) Woke 90% of social media threads will have at least one of these in the first 10 comments.
I agree. Me being an old bastard it's often assumed that I'm an old right-wing Brexiteering bastard - and nothing could be further from the truth. And, of all my family and friends, the only ones who were pro-Brexit were younger ones from London duped by Boris' NHS lies. Lazy pigeonholing and childish attempts to be more right-on than everyone else. It's all rather pathetic and quite depressing, imo.
Depends what privilege we have though. Label someone old and they might not get a job for example so it does impact. Theres clear biases at.work there.
But more and more people blame "boomers" for the problems of the youth of today or that "millenials" think this or that. Its incredibly lazy and completely wrong. You can't blame society's ills on an entire generation in the same way you can't blame an entire race, religion or "foreigners".
yeah. the 1% love any sort of blame thats not the rich getting richer. A generic its your generation's fault is ideals for them. Then you get the biased systems and filtering out of people over 40 or 50 for jobs. I can tell you i have seen people who are mid 40s really suffer thinking they are too old to get a new job., never mind mid 50s. I general think these days that when any group gets angry they just resort to this sweeping generalisation against some other group like as if reason goes out the door.
I experience this all the time at work. Majority are a lot older than me and I often get "you'll understand when you're older", and it's impossible to argue against because whatever you say they refer to age / experience #youngsterproblems
It's hard now, but when you get older you'll understand why they said these things and do the same yourself...
I imagine Z is the type of guy who thinks he can get into a night club but in reality he'd be laughed at and called grandad.
I got checked for ID earlier this year buying alcohol. Earlier this week my wife got asked if she qualifies for the senior discount (we're both early 40's). I told her she should have asked the girl if she was pregnant
I was out on the beers in Chicago when I was asked for ID. At the time I was a bald 6’1 bearded man in his mid 40’s who looked his age…..apparently they do not ‘age discriminate’ so the bouncers have to ask everyone their age.
