His goals he’s scored and when SAFC score he doesn’t really crack a massive smile. Maybe he’s just not a smiler. But whatever happens, he’ll absolutely get my full backing. Johnson has laid everything at the agent’s door seemingly (just from what I’ve read, nothing else)

LJ has basically said he has strengths and weaknesses, and he thinks he can coach those out of him and improve his strengths as well.

That's good enough for me. I trust the club and manager.

I think his crossing is pretty good there's just not been anyone who knows what they're doing in the middle. Could well be wrong but I think he was injured before Wyke finally figured out it's better to be in front of the defender when a cross comes in than stood behind them.

What needs the most work for me is polishing his defending and encouraging him to shoot, he often gets in a good position and doesn't have a crack even though he's got a decent shot on him.

Before the injury I rated him as the best attacking left back in the league.

Defensively there is stuff to work on, but if that can be coached then we have a real prospect.

The comments I’m reading on here and elsewhere is what I’ve come to expect with a section of our supporters...

Hopefully he takes no notice, and goes on to be a very good football player.

Agree with that. Particularly under Parkinson he would get cross after cross in but there was no bugger busting a gut to get into the box.

I honestly thought his crossing went backwards under Parkinson. The previous season he wouldn’t cross a ball unless he had someone to cross to. You could see him looking fir players and finding them most of the time. He would very rarely put his head down and just stick it in without knowing there was someone there. I think Parkinson trained that put of him. Whilst it’s sometimes good to just “stick it in the mixer”, it’s better to know the difference between doing that and crossing a ball

If we had withdrawn the offer we would have automatically lost any compensation when he moved on, how many times does it have to be said?
Edit: In fact if we had offered him less than his existing deal the same would have applied. fwiw, my own opinion is that we probably offered him a 'roll-over' deal on the same terms and him/his agent thought he was worth more hence the impasse. He eventually came to his senses. Gets my full backing from here on in.

Are you still banging on about that. Feck off and get a life ffs.
I read an article which i cant find anymore or even be ar$ed to look for because i actually have a life. It said we had a contract drawn up for him at the beginning of the year and then we changed it to a lesser one in May when the season finished due to his injury relapse.
Whether thats true or not i really dont know, but Speakman has come out and said his injuries needed to be considered when offering him a new contract and weve offered him the best one we possibly can which has been turned down.
That to me sounds like it could be true.

Its all over and done with now ffs, bore off and find somebody else to keep you occupied

Say it as many times as you like mate, I still would have withdrawn the offer, we have already made big statements in the transfer market and shown we are no longer pushovers. He is a Sunderland player now and will get my full support but as I said it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

fair enough, i was just pointing out the probable reason why we didn't/wouldn't withdraw the offer.

I actually watched him once after a pre-season down Hartlepool. He had a pint of Guinness in each hand and basically poured one down his neck - never saw his throat move once to gulp it down!
