She wins this and she goes to 51 in the world and becomes British number 1. She was ranked 350th before Wimbledon started! It's astonishing.
The thing is, watching her it is no longer suprising what she is doing on court and I think that her Wimbledon experience helped her mentally. She just looks born to compete at the top level.
Just what was puttting into the waters in the cities of Toronto and Montreal in the years 1999, 2000 and 2001 to proudce three wonderful tennis players. Shoud Raducanu and Fernandez prevail in their semis, it will be the first final between teenagers since ???? As for the men I would love Auger Alissiamie to do it!!!
If Raducanu wins tonight she'll go above Serena Williams in the rankings! I know Serena isn't the player she once was but that would still be amazing.
Wow!! What a fabulous season Joe Salisbury is having! Into the US Mens' Doubles final. He also has an opportunity to get to the mixed doubles final as well. Jamie Murray will be facing him aross the net as he and Soares won their semi. Who to support? A Birt v A Brit!!!
And Leylah fights back from down a break to win the first set against Sabalenka. I had expected this would be where her journey would end, because Sabalenka is a punishing server, but through a combination of Sabalenka errors and tenacious returns she's a set away from the final.
Welp, that's one precocious teen in the final. Now it's Raducanu's turn. She has single-handedly taken out three current (and one former) top 5 seeds, two former #1s, and opponents with a combined 7 Grand Slam wins and 51 WTA titles to her 1 (minor) tournament win. That definitely isn't luck.
I'm awake now so what the hell I'm going to watch Raducanu. I may fall asleep at my desk later but **** it.
Not sure who would be favoured in the Final if Raducanu wins (and it's looking very good there). She'll have made the final without facing a top 10 seed, but her matches have all been demolition jobs to date. Fernandez has faced a whole bunch of pedigreed opponents, but her matches have all been absolute wars.
