I took the plunge with Frantastic at Doncaster today. The Frankel colt is a full brother to Cracksman, who was my ante-post Derby horse at 14/1 in his season. Cracksman took time to really lift off but he was more or less unbeatable on soft ground later in his career. Frantastic is entered in the Group 1 Futurity/Old Racing Post Trophy and John Gosden isn't one to be wasting entries. If Frantastic is to live up to that enrty, and to his naming, he needs to be winning on debut. He's 5/2 but if the vibes are correct that could soon shrivel up. Those who have already run do not seat a daunting level and I decided to have a decent bet on Frantastic. 2.20 Doncaster Frantastic 5/2 Gosden also saddles Israr, who is by Muhaarar out of Oaks winner Taghrooda.
6.05 Cork-J J Jumbo Each Way @ 33-1 [Bet 365] First ever race but small stable could have a surprise for the big trainers
I had Just Beautiful as part of a treble last time out. I took her at 6/5 as a banker and she was backed to 4/6 but she didn't read the script and finished second. That was in France but back in the UK now she returns to 7F, where she is 4/4 and her other defeat at a mile came when a good 6th in the Falmouth. Just Beautiful is 4/1 this time and worth another go. Double Or Bubble is another progressive filly and I did a RF on the pair. 3.25 Doncaster Just Beautiful 4/1 Just Beautiful/Double Or Bubble RF
Very tricky race to figure out. I had 3 i liked in it but couldn't decide between them and haven't backed any in singles so just done a very small stakes combi fc/tc just in case. Wrens Breath/Statement/Loch Lein are the 3. Best of luck with yours
I like Tynecastle Park in the 1.30 Uttoxeter - on a career-low mark - jumps form reads 32/22PP25P4 - 6 times winner in handicaps on the flat - Fergus Gregory who takes off 3lb knows the horse very well - ran well in a maiden hurdle last time out when 4th "Prominent, ridden home turn, briefly led before last, weakened run-in" - small stable had 2 runners placed recently - Uttoxeter suits prominent racers
Morning, team. I note that the Blake's are seemingly trying to win some of that Skybet Sunday Series loot as they have put old boy, Clearance, in the 2 mile handicap on Sunday. PJ McDonald already booked. That would be quite a feather in their caps if this wins. Going, within a month, from getting the horse out of a claimer to him obliging in a televised £30,000 heat! Meanwhile, the term 'legend' is used much loosely at Donny today. It is most fitting though in the case of Amy Ryan who is a Legend with a capital 'L' and in my all-time top 3 fave jockeys of all-time. Great too see her back in the saddle again and hope things go well for the old girl today. Good luck all.
I expect Gary Bardwell to win for Godolphin the 2.50 with Natural Colour. Would be nice because Gary Bardwell was a regular on the AW when I started my interest in horse racing during the 90s.
Well, if there was a comp then i would be entering these in to the fray... 1:45 - Implore, 10/1 2:20 - Chef de Partie, 9/1 2:50 - First Dance, 15/2 3:25 - Just Beautiful, 9/2 4:00 - Live in the Moment, 4/1 4:30 - Animaat, 7/2 5:00 - Look Out Louis, 5/1 None of em carrying the extra burden on my money, just something to keep me interested while i am at work...
The 4.05 Cork sees Jessica Harrington's Trevaunance trying to build on a promising debut 4th where she stayed on in eyecatching style. Not much of a price this time but I have doubled her with Arecibo, who drops in class after some decent efforts in good races. I thought he would be favourite today but Khaadem is leading the betting, despite being 5 lbs lower rated. 4.00 Doncaster Arecibo 9/4 4.05 Cork Trevaunance 6/4 Win double
Frantastic held every chance but couldn't quicken away when asked. He stayed on in third place but was never getting to them. A satisfactory debut but no Racing Post Trophy and I feel he will probably run in another maiden and then be put away for next season. Gosden's other runner Israr landed the spoils from a rank 66/1 outsider. It's hard to say how good this form is but he could do no more than win. At least I was on at 5/2 last night, unlike the late players who were pumping the money on at 5/4 SP. It's important, even in defeat, to secure the best odds, to minimise loss for the same potential net win. Hard to say how far Israr will stay. His sire was a 6F champ, while Taghrooda won the Oaks and King George QEII in her fairly short career.
Well, I got Just Beautiful right and also landed the forecast. It wasn't as big a forecast as I had anticipated when placing the bet, because both fillies were well supported, but it paid a shade over 10/1, so that's always welcome. Good shout Lord Gyllene with Natural Colour at 11/1
My double was scuppered quickly with Khaadem not for catching today. With Trevaunance drifting to 2/1 I just did her as a single because I had actually expected her to be about Evens today. In the end she collared her field to score easily by more than 2 lengths in taking style. Promising debuts from Thoughts Of June and Red Azelea in 2nd and 3rd but I thought Trevaunance was pretty impressive today and she will probably step up in class now. Not a bad day today but perhaps too fast underfoot for Arecibo and I wonder if, like his brother Cracksman, Frantastic might appreciate some give. It was on the soft side when Cracksman made his 2YO debut and he was defeated by Poet's Voice on his penultimate start when 2/5 Fav on good to firm going.
Muharaar has been a bit of a surprise this year as he's had a lot of 3yo winners at much further than he stayed. His 2yos last year were not particularly successful. This year he's doing better and I'd imagine Israar could stay at least 10f. Muharaar could be the next Pivotal.
