Odds are usually against. If they weren’t then everyone would be doing it which would then mean some weren’t which means the odds are against them.
So back to the question how far can newcastle fans realistically expect to get up the table? 12th last season, so isn't that par
No. That’s a different thread. I want top 8 and a Cup. I want a team that tries to win. I want a team that plays attacking attractive football. And I want to be “excited” when I watch my team. That’s not unrealistic. It’s what every football fan wants for their team. Why should I or other NUFC fans be different? I also want a manager and an owner who want the same as me. Not a manager who just wants to survive (in his position) or an owner who just wants to survive (in the PL)
Top 8 Man City Liverpool Man united Chelsea Tottenham Everton Leicester Arsenal Looking at that it really doesn't look very easy to me.. Arsenal are doing badly but there's really not much scope for what youre after. You did get cup runs the last 2 seasons though and came 12th. I don't think it's about trying I think the issue is how the clubs run and where money goes. If it was done better maybe the odd top 10 is possible though
They've done everything they can to ensure Leicester is never repeated. It was a real slap in the face as far as they were concerned. The absolute balls of Leicester to upset the applecart. The whole system needs overhauled and equalised. Its the only way. In terms of us, the money we generate isn't enough to get into the top 10 on a regular basis. A top manager or up and coming manager might get you the odd foray in there but that's about it. Leicester have chucked money at it for awhile but those at the top just chuck more to keep the door shut. While the game remains about the haves and have nots, Ashley will see no value (bar sporting) in investing over and above. They've made it so there is no return on your money. Hence the Saudi bid is blocked by them because they can and would just override all that with serious investment. So they are persona non grata. Ashley is a massive ****. But he is small fry compared to those running our game in the ****y terms. He is just in your face ****y. The others slink around in the shadows making decisions about the direction of the game to ensure they remain the at the front of the queue for the benefits of a corrupt system.
Hilarious that folders wants only cup runs and top 10. He's had two cup runs and 13th and 12th... Not far off his ultimate expectation yet its nowhere near good enough from Bruce?
I firmly believe that if we'd have been run properly, our commercial revenue streams would be up their with Spurs. We once had a bigger revenue than them commercially so history shows it's possible. Ashley took 'free advertising' in lieu of his interest but at no point did that valuation actually marry up with the going rate in the market. He's basically taken value out of the business physically and on paper too. Putting it another way.. if I'd have been their commercial director I'd have generated the income outside of advertising to more than cover the cost of a decent academy or 1st team additions... and pushed my boss to take the going rate as the latest revaluation. I once worked it out that commercially he's actually had back his entire loan and then some in undervalued advertising. Just my opinion but I know a thing or two about this topic.
You can't get in the top 10 on what we generate in my opinion - otherwise why isn't anyone doing it? Of course we could generate more with a better commercial team, but what you generate goes hand in hand with where you finish. He's run us into the ground and that is now split milk so its pointless whining on. Even so we'd still need further investment to compete. You need an owner who accepts some dead money. Its an unrealistic expectation and its simply not possible to do with any consistency. Pardew, Rafa have all alluded to this so the fans can't really plead ignorance. Everton, Leicester, Arsenal, Spurs, Man U, Man C, Chelsea, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Leeds are all investing money out of their own pockets on top of what is generated. So immediately there are 10 clubs with benevolent owners willing to stick their hand in their pocket. To be honest there are another few investing too. We are being run at zero, self sustainable. We finish in accordance with our finances, if not exceeding. The reality of modern football is you need a rich owner willing to spend their own funds to break the top 10 regularly. Only two reasons they do that - for fun or to promote a wider goal (like Man C). Ashley has no desire for either of those functions. He gets the advertisement he needs for his main area of concern, so there is zero incentive otherwise.
And the rest of my wants on my ‘want’ list? To be precise Bruce has delivered none of the things on my want list and you’re querying why I don’t want Bruce as manager. Just great, let’s all stick to the facts CC but that clearly isn’t you’re strong point, is it?
You're getting close to what you want in your own words mate. What aren't you getting? You'll not get good weather and nice food unfortunately
He's achieved none of the 'wants' on my list. So to give a straight answer to a straight question. Everything I want. That's what I'm not getting. I am actually getting good weather and nice food as I'm currently in Italy and just waiting for the wife before going out for a meal.
You had two cup runs and finished 12th.. Thats not far off want want which of course was what I suggested and questioned in the 1st place. You're on holiday? Lucky you mate I bet Steve Bruce wishes he was allowed one without ridicule. Enjoy mate
